New Mexico State will seek its first win tonight as it takes on UCLA at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. Obviously, the Aggies are expected to fall to 0-4 as the latest NCAA College Football Odds have the 13th ranked Bruins listed as a -42.5 against the spread and -105000 money line favorite ($105000 wins $100). The total in tonight's game, which is scheduled to get underway at 10:30pm ET on the Pac-12 Network, is set at 67 points.
UCLA picked up a noteworthy 36-30 win over Nebraska last season in Pasadena, but, despite that result, it entered last weekend's rematch with the Huskers as a five point road dog. The Bruins looked the part of a mutt in the early going as they fell behind 21-3, but they turned it on just before the half and dominated the rest of the contest en route to a 41-21 victory.
Quarterback Brett Hundley was sensational in the upset win, completing 16-of-24 passes for 294 yards and three touchdowns and he also accounted for 61 of UCLA's 210 rush yards.
Hundley and company reverse roles this weekend, going from road underdog to heavy home favorite, and for good reason. While the Bruins look like a potential Pac-12 title contender, New Mexico State has a similar look to the Aggies squad that went 1-11 last season.
New Mexico State scored 49 points in its first three games while its opposition (Texas, Minnesota, and UTEP) averaged 47.3 per contest and in its lone road outing, a meeting with the now beleaguered Longhorns in Austin, NMST lost 56-7.
Texas racked up 715 yards in just under 24 minutes and it averaged a ridiculous 11.9 yards per pass and 8.5 yards per carry in its destruction of the Aggies defense. Those numbers would suggest UCLA can do whatever it wants on offense this evening, the only real question is how long will Head Coach Jim Mora choose to embarrass New Mexico State.
