College basketball on Wednesday night and we will see the UNLV Runnin Rebels travel to San Jose, California to take on the San Jose State Spartans. The game has a start time of 10:00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on ESPN 3. Vegas odds have the Rebels listed as 9.5 point favorites, while the total sits at 140.5.
Analysis: San Jose State has come up empty in all eight MWC contests this year and they currently stand at 6-14 overall. Over the weekend, the Spartans were thrashed by Boise State at Taco Bell Arena by a score of 76-55. Offense has been a reall problem for this team as they come in ranked 285 in scoring (67.5 ppg) and 334th in shooting (39.5%). Rashad Muhammad scores 14/8 ppg and leads a group of three players that score in double digits, which includes Jaleel Williams (11.4 ppg) and Devante Wilson (10.1 ppg). defensively they have not been all that good allowing 72.1 ppg, but they have allowed just 42.5% shooting.
As for the Rebels, they come in at 13-7 overall and 4-3 within the MWC. The Rebels have won two straight and three of the last four thanks to a 75-73 overtime triumph versus visiting Fresno State last weekend. UNLV averages a modest 73 ppg on 43.1% shooting. A big problem for this team all year long has been their FT shooting that ranks 310th in the nation at 65.3%. The Rebels, though, have been very stout at the defensive end of the floor, allowing just 64.8 ppg (49th) on just 39% shooting (25th), while also ranking 2nd in the nation in 3pt defense (26.7%). Bryce Dejean-Jones leads the team in scoring at 14.4 ppg, while Roscoe Smith is one of the better rebounders in the nation, grabbing 12.2 rpg. The Rebels own a 31-4 record in the series.
Pick: The Spartans are a mess right now and really don't stand a chance at staying in this one vs a UNLV squad that has really played well n the road this year. I look for an easy DD win by the rebels tonight.
