NCAA Basketball Picks Georgetown Hoyas vs St John's Red Storm

NCAA basketball on Sunday night and we will see the Georgetown Hoyas travel to Madison Square Garden to take on the St John's Red Storm. The game has a start time of 7:00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on Fox Sports 1. Vegas odds have the Red Storm listed as 4 point favorites, while the total sits at 151.5.

Analysis: The Georgetown Hoyas started the Big East season at 3-6, but they have now won their last 3 conference games to push their record to 6-6 in conference play. Overall the Hoyas have won 4 games in a row and come in with a 15-9 mark on the season. The Hoyas average a modest 71.4 ppg on 46.1% shooting for the year. D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera tops the team in scoring average with 17.1 ppg , while Markel Starks is right behind him at 16.8 ppg. Nate Lubick and Hopkins are the team's top rebounders, with Lubick checking in at 6 rpg and Hopkins at 5.8 rpg. Defensively, the Hoyas are solid, allowing just 66.7 ppg on 39.5% shooting, which is 26th in the nation.

St. John's has won four consecutive games, and 7 of their last 8, with a victory over then-No. 12 ranked Creighton thrown in. St John's comes in at 19-6 overall and 6-6 in the Big East. The Red Storm are averaging 72.9 ppg on 44.9% shooting. D'Angelo Harrison leads the team in scoring with an 18 ppg average, while JaKarr Sampson checks in with a 12.4 ppg average and he leads the team in rebounding at 6.2 rpg. Defensively, the Red Storm are a very solid team, allowing just 67.1 ppg on 40.5% shooting. C Chris Obekpa easily leads the Big East in blocked shots, averaging 3.2. St. John's leads the all-time series 53-47, but the Hoyas have won the last six meetings.

Pick: I will go with the Under in this one. The under is 10-4 in the last 14 meetings and this will be one of those good old Big east low scoring games that we have been accustomed to seeing the last few years. Both of these teams play vs good defense and neither really pushes tempo on offense and that should be enough to keep the scoring low. St John's allows just 64.6 ppg at home, while Georgetown comes in having allowed just 63.2 ppg in their last 5 games, while the Hoyas (39.5%) and Red Storm (40.5%) rank first and third, respectively, in the Big East in field-goal percentage defense. This one will be all about defense.
