NCAA Basketball Patriot League Finals American U Eagles vs Boston U Terriers

NCAA basketball on Wednesday night and it is the Finals of the Patriot League. In this matchup we will see the American U. Eagle take on the Boston U. Terriers at Case Gym in Boston, Massachusetts. The game has a start time of 7:30 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on CBSSN. Vegas odds have the Terriers listed as 6.5 point favorites, while the total sits at 124.

Stat Pack: The American University Eagle got to this game by beating Colgate and Holy Cross. They enter the game at 19-12 overall and 15-5 with in the Patriot League. The Eagles are not a strong offensive team as they score just 64.2 ppg, which is 317th in the nation, but they do shoot the ball well, hitting 49.3% of their shots, to rank 9th in the nation. Despite the poor overall offense from the Eagles, they do have 4 players that average in double figures, led by Jesse Reed, who averages 14.1 ppg. Tony Wroblicky leads the team in boards (7.3 rpg), while ranking second in scoring (12.1 ppg). Defense is where this team has excelled this year, as they have allowed 59.4 ppg, which is 9th in the nation.

The Boston U Terriers come in as the number 1 seed in the Patriot League tournament. They got to the finals by beating Lafayette and Army, with both wins by at least 21 points. The Terriers come in at 24-9 overall and 17-3 in the Patriot League. They average a solid 72.5 ppg on 45.7% shooting overall and 36.8% from long range. Maurice Watson leads the team in scoring at 13.5 ppg, while also dishing out 231 assists for the year. D.J. Irving (12.5 ppg) and Dom Morris (11.5 ppg) also average in double figures for the Terriers, while Morris leads them in rebounding as well at 6.2 ppg. On defense this is an average team as they allow 67.4 ppg (107th) on 43.5% shooting (172nd).

Pick: We will be looking at the over in this game. I just feel this line is to low. I know that Championship games usually breed Unders, but this will be an exception. The Boston Terriers get this game on their home court, where they have averaged 75.3 ppg on the year. They have also put up 91 points in each of their first two Patriot League tournament games and they scored 71 points on American in the game between this teams this year on this floor. American plays the best defense in the league, but they have allowed 65.9 ppg in their last 7 games away from home, with those games averaging 132.1 ppg. American ins not a great offense, but they are 9th in the nation in shooting overall and 47th in shooting the 3-ball. The Terriers have allowed 64.6 ppg at home and 67.5 ppg overall, plus they are weak defending the three, ranking 217th in that category. This should be a high scoring game than most think. Boston U home games have averaged 139.9 ppg, while the two meetings between these teams put up 133 and 142 points. This one should hit the 130's at least.
