NCAA basketball on Thursday night and we will see the Washington State Cougars travel to Alaska Airlines Arena to take on the Washington Huskies. The game has a start time of 10:30 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on the Pac-12 Network. Vegas odds have the Huskies listed as a 9 point favorites, while the total sits at 133.
Analysis: The Washington State Cougars have had a rough year as they come in at 9-18 overall and 2-13 in the Pac-12. One of their Conference wins were vs Washington, but they have since dropped 6 games in a row. A big problem for the Cougars this year has been their offense that has averaged just 62.3 ppg, to rank 339th in the nation. They are also 325th in FG% (40.7%) and 325th in FT shooting (64.8%). The Offense is led by DaVonte Lacy, who averages 19.3 ppg and is one of the few on the team that can hit FT's (82.3%). D.J. Shelton is the only other player on the team that averages in double figures (10.0 ppg) and he also hits hits free throw (80.0%). Defensively the Cougars have been solid allowing just 66.7 ppg, to rank 85th in the nation.
The Washington Huskies come in at 15-13 overall and 7-8 within the Pac-12. They have won just 2 of their last 7 games, but 5 of those games were on the road and they are home for this one, where they are 12-3 on the year. The Huskies are a solid offensive team, as they average 74.5 ppg to rank 81st in the nation. Unlike the Cougars, the Huskies are a good team from the FT line, hitting 76.1% of their freebies to rank 10th in the nation. C.J. Wilcox is the leader of the offense, scoring 18.6 ppg, while also hitting 85.4% of his FTs. Nigel Williams-Goss (13.3 ppg), Andre Andrews (12.1 ppg) and Perris Blackwell (10.5 ppg) round out the double digit scorers for the team. Perris leads the team in rebounding at 6.9 rpg. defense has been a problem for this team as they have allowed 75.3 ppg (297th) on 48% shooting (336th).
Pick: Despit the defensive problems for the Huskies and their high scoring exploits I will go with the Under here. Their home games have averaged 150+ points and they are playing a team that is 2-13 in the Pac-12 yet this total is still very low. Tells me this should be a low scoring game. The Cougars have just played two games at high scoring Oregon and Oregon State and just 120 and 125 points were scored in the two games respectively. The Cougars are one of the worst offensive teams in the nation and they averaged just 55.2 ppg on 36.9% shooting on the road road this year. The Cougars have a way of slowing teams down and I feel they will do just that here. I don't expect this one to hit the 130's at all.
