The road savvy Spurs are in the Mile High City tonight for their second meeting of the season with the Nuggets (9:00pm ET start time, Fox Sport Midwest). San Antonio is one of the best road teams in the league, but its away prowess has come into question over the last week. The Spurs, who lead the Southwest Division with a 19-7 record, have dropped three of their last four games and each of those setbacks came on the road.
San Antonio lost to the Jazz, Blazers, and Thunder, and it was hardly competitive in doing so, falling by an average of 8.3 points per game. Despite the Spurs recent downtown, they remain, arguably, the league’s best road team as evidenced by their 11-5 record away from the AT&T Center.
Denver, while a modest 13-12 on the season, could make a case for being the league's best home team. The Nuggets are 6-1 as a host and they have outscored their visiting opposition by an average of nine points per game. Denver’s lone home loss came in mid-November when it fell to the defending champion Heat 98-93.
The Spurs have been something of a thorn in the Nuggets side, though, regardless of game location. San Antonio, which destroyed George Karl’s squad 126-100 last month at the AT&T Center, has taken eight of 10 from Denver and it is 4-1 in its last five games Pepsi Center, defeating the Nuggets by an average of 13.8 points per game.
San Antonio, which opens a four game home set on Friday night, could be without Manu Ginobili this evening. The veteran shooting guard, who is averaging 11.5 points per game on the season, suffered a deep thigh bruise in Saturday’s 103-88 win over Boston and he did not play in last night’s 107-93 loss at Oklahoma City.
