NBA Thursday San Antonio Spurs at Miami Heat: Start Time, Spread, Free Pick

Pro Hoops on Thursday and we will see the San Antonio Spurs travel to South Beach to take on the Miami Heat.  The game is scheduled for an 8:00 pm (Eastern) start time and will be televised live on TNT. Currently the odds for the game have Miami favored by 10 points while the total sits at 205.  Check out Sportsbook Spy to see who the Public is taking on all of today's games.

Free Analysis: The San Antonio Spurs have built up the best road record in the NBA at 9-1. San Antonio has won the first five of its six-game road trip and was able to give stars Tim Duncan and Tony Parker plenty of rest in a blowout of the Orlando Magic on Wednesday. San Antonio (13-3) cruised to a 110-89 victory over Orlando on Wednesday behind a game-high 20 points from Manu Ginobili while Tony Parker added 14 and eight assists. Tim Duncan added 15 points for the Spurs, who have won eight straight and 19 of their last 21 regular-season road games. A win would give San Antonio just its third unbeaten road trip with a minimum of five games in franchise history, with the others coming on five-game swings in 1984 and 1990. San Antonio did not have any player log more than 32 minutes in Wednesday’s 110-89 victory at Orlando and needed Duncan for only 27. The former MVP has gotten off to his best start in years and is contributing on both ends. He had five blocks to go along with 15 points against the Magic. The Spurs have been able to put up big point totals thanks to Parker’s penetration and a host of 3-point shooters. Ginobili went 6-of-9 from beyond the arc on Wednesday and Danny Green, Gary Neal and Matt Bonner are all capable of getting hot from 3-point range.

The Miami Heat are off to their best home start in franchise history, which may not be encouraging for a San Antonio Spurs team that has been routed in its last two trips to South Beach. The Heat (10-3) have won their first six games at American Airlines Arena and earned their fourth consecutive victory overall with a 110-108 come-from-behind win over Cleveland on Saturday. LeBron James scored a game-high 30 points and finished with five assists, the last coming when he found Ray Allen for a 3-pointer with 18.2 seconds left to put Miami ahead for good. Chris Bosh finished with 23 points and Allen had 17 off the bench for the Heat, who trailed by seven with 1:58 remaining. The Heat have won four straight overall and are leading the NBA in scoring at 104.8 points. LeBron James has been fantastic, but Miami has also benefited from the addition of Ray Allen, who has scored 17 points in each of the last two games and is averaging 12.8 off the bench. Miami can shoot 3-pointers, with Allen and Mario Chalmers streaking out on the wings, but is also able to play just about any style thanks to James. The reigning MVP continues to round out his game as both a scorer and a distributor. He scored 30 points and the Heat exploded in the last two minutes to avoid a loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday. Dwyane Wade, who has been battling a foot injury, will benefit the most from the four-day break Miami has had between games. Wade has played in the last two games but struggled to 6-of-15 shooting and committed four turnovers against the Cavaliers.

Free Pick: Gonna go with the Under in this one. The Spurs are playing their 4th game in 5 nights and 6th in a row on the road, so I cannot see them wanting to get into a running game with the well-rested Heat, who have had 4 days off. Extra rest like that may also hurt the Heat and I expect them to come out a bit flat and rusty. The Spurs have played good defense this year as always, allowing 95.1 ppg overall and 96.2 ppg on the road. The Miami defense has not been that good this year, but they have been working on that during their break and I expect o solid showing from then at that end of the floor in this one. The Under is 7-2-1 in Miami’s last 10 on Thursday’s, while the Under is 9-3 in San Antonio’s last 12 vs a team with a winning record. I look for a game in the 190’s at best here.
