The surging Miami Heat welcome the sliding Portland Trail Blazers to the AmericanAirlines Arena tonight for an East versus West clash on NBA TV. Tip off in this evening’s meeting between the Blazers and Heat is set for 7:30pm ET. The latest NBA Odds are favoring Miami at -10.5 against the spread; the game total is set at 199 points. The Heat and Blazers are drawing -890 and +680 moneyline odds ($890 wins $100 and $100 wins $680) respectively.

Portland slipped below the break even point on Sunday as it suffered a third consecutive loss to drop to 25-26 overall. The Trail Blazers opened a six game road swing last Monday with a 100-98 win at Minnesota, but they proceeded to lose games at Dallas, at Houston, and at Orlando to fall two games back of the Rockets in the race for the final Western Conference playoff spot.

Portland’s skid figures to hit four games tonight with the Heat looking more and more like the team that captured last year’s NBA Finals trophy.

Miami, now 34-14 overall and 2.5 games ahead of the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference overall standings, has reeled off five straight wins, beating the Raptors, Bobcats, Rockets, Clippers, and Lakers by an average of 11.6 points per game.

LeBron James’ ridiculous play has been the impetus behind the Heat’s recent explosion. James has averaged 31 points, 6.8 rebounds, and six assists over the last five games while shooting an unfathomable 73 percent from the field.

James should have little difficulty producing similar totals against the Blazers tonight. Portland’s defense has not exactly been a lock down unit this season, giving up an average of 99.3 points per contest, but it has really struggled of late. The Blazers have yielded an average of 106 points per contest in their last five games.

Notable Trends: The Blazers are 6-1 against the spread in their last seven games as a road dog with a spread between 8 and 10.5 and a total between 195 and 200 points. The Over was 7-0 in those same seven games.
