National League Wild Card Game: San Francisco Giants at New York Mets MLB Odds

The New York Mets are hosting the San Francisco Giants in the National League Wild Card Game on Wednesday evening. The game is scheduled for an 8:09 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. The MLB Playoff Odds for the game have the Mets listed as a small favorite to pick up the win and advance.

MLB Playoff Odds
New York Mets -106
Total: 6 runs

The winner of this game heads to Chicago to take on the Cubs in the National League Division Series on Friday as the playoffs get underway. The Mets are one of the hottest teams in the league, winning 27 of their final 40 regular season games and grinding their way into the wild card game.

It’s an even year, which gives Giants fans some reason for excitement. San Francisco has won World Series titles in 2010, 2012 and 2014, making this year one that could be special for the Giants if the trend continues.

The pitching matchup in this one should be excellent. The Giants are sending Madison Bumgarner to the mound, the Mets will send Noah Syndergaard to the hill as we have a pair of the game’s best dueling for a chance to take on the team’s best game in the next round.

Bumgarner went 15-9 this season with a 2.74 ERA, striking out 251. He faced off against the Mets twice this season, earning a pair of victories over New York.

His dominance in the post season has been well documented, his 0.60 ERA in road playoff games is the best in the history of baseball with a minimum of 25 innings pitched.

Syndergaard won 14 games this season, he had a 2.60 ERA and struck out 218. One of the young Mets flame throwers, Thor was actually better in road games this season as he went 6-6 at home with a 2.87 ERA. Either way he was a solid starter that will be a tough test for the Giants.

Both teams have post season experience and this could be a lower-scoring game. It’s tough to ignore the success of Bumgarner from previous playoff starts.
