Monday Night Football Carolina Panthers at Washington Redskins Start Time, NFL Odds, Free Pick

The Carolina Panthers are on the road tonight, taking on the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football. The game is scheduled for an 8:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. The NFL Odds for the game have the Redskins favored by a touchdown to pick up the victory at home.

NFL Odds
Washington -7
Total: 50.5 points

The Washington Redskins are fighting for a playoff spot. Carolina, the defending champion of the NFC, probably won't be making an appearance in the post season and they look to be finishing the season against three teams that will be. In this game the Panthers will look for just the second road victory on the season, the first came against the St. Louis Rams in the middle of the year.

Washington is coming off a win last week over the Eagles that stopped a two-game losing streak overall. Kirk Cousins has looked very strong on the season with better than 4,000 yards passing and 23 scores. When he is playing well the Redskins are a tough squad, especially when he is finding tight end Jordan Reed for touchdowns. Jamison Crowder, Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson give the Redskins a trio of guys on the outside and through the middle of the field as well, each are averaging better than 12 yards per catch. The Panthers defense, which ranks dead last in the NFL in pass defense, will have some struggles tonight against that passing attack.

Carolina, led by Cam Newton, is going to fight and claw like hell to try to get to 8-8 on the season, but it won't be easy. They get Luke Kuechly back on the defensive side of the football, which is critical to their overall success. Carolina has given up 91 points the last three games overall and better than 1,100 yards, so getting their defensive leader back on that side of the football should help.

Washington has covered nine of the last 11 numbers, that's pretty good. Many of those numbers have been short, though, as the Redskins have won by more than a touchdown twice this season. Josh Norman lining up against his former team could go either way — it could be a distraction or it could be a motivational factor for the Redskins. The Panthers offense is going to have to really excel here if they have a chance.
