Monday night baseball and we will see the Minnesota Twins travel to Busch Stadium to take on the St Louis CardinalsFree Pick to follow. First pitch is scheduled for a 8:15 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised locally.

Betting Odds

Minnesota              -169
St Louis                 -179

Over/ Under: 7 O -120

This is game 1 of a 4 game series between these Interleague League foes.  The Minnesota Twins are starting to slide, as they come in having won just 2 of their last 9 games. The Twins are in second place in the AL Central, 1.5 games behind the Royals. The St Louis Cardnals continue to be the best team in baseball and they lead the NL Central by 6 games over the Pirates. They should also be fresh for this game as yesterday's game vs the Royals was rained out.

The Twins rank 13th in scoring (4.24 rpg), 18th in hitting (.249) and 25th in homers (48), while on the mound they are 18th in ERA (3.95) and 2nd in WHIP (1.33). The Twins are 5-0 in their last 5 interleague games as an underdog, but 21-43 in their last 64 vs. a team with a winning record and 9-20 in their last 29 games as a road underdog of +151 to +200.

St Louis ranks 21st in scoring (3.98 rpg), 7th in hitting (.262) and 26th in homers (47), while on the mound they are 1st in ERA (2.65) and 6th in WHIP (1.20). St Louis is 43-12 in their last 55 home games and 52-19 in their last 71 games as a favorite, plus 11-1 in Lackeys last 12 starts as a home favorite.

Getting the ball for the Twins tonight will be Trevor May, who is 4-4 with a 4.16 ERA in 11 starts this year, while on the road he has gone 2-1 with a 4.64 ERA in 4 starts. This will be his first ever meeting with the Cardinals.

Taking the hill for the Cardinals today will be John Lackey, who is 4-4 with a 3.74 ERA in 12 starts this year, while at home he has gone 4-1 with a 1.73 ERA. Lackey has gone a solid 86 with a 3.10 ERA in 18 career starts vs the Twins.

Pick: Can't look anywhere else but the Cards in this one. Lackey has been excellent at home this year and he has had an extra day off, plus he has a 3-1 mark and a 1.21 ERA in his last 6 starts vs the Twins. Minnesota was hot to start the year and most of that was due to their offense, but they have stopped hitting of late, as they have averaged just 2.5 rpg in their last 8 games. Going up against the top ranked pitching staff won't help those numbers a whole lot. Lackey has a 1.73 ERA at home, while May has a 4.64 ERA on the road. The Twins just won't get enough run to win this one.
