MLB Wednesday New York Yankees at Chicago White Sox: Start Time, Odds, Free Pick

Hi-res-150462999_crop_exact

Wednesday night baseball and we will see the New York Yankees to take on the Chicago White Sox in game 3 of their 3 game series from U.S. Cellular Field. The game is scheduled for an 8:10 (ET) pm start time and it will be televised live on ESPN2, YES (New York) and CSN (Chicago). Currently the odds have Chicago favored at -130while New York is dogs of +122. The total for the game sits at 8.5 runs.

Free Analysis: New York (72-51), which hasn't been swept by the White Sox since dropping all four games in the Bronx from June 15-18, 2000, will be looking to avoid its first series sweep since dropping four straight at Oakland last month when it closes out the three-game set on Wednesday. The Yankees have hit three homers in the series, including two by Derek Jeter, but it has been their inability to keep the ball in the park has trimmed its lead in the American League East to just four games over the Tampa Bay Rays.  The White Sox clubbed four home runs in a 9-6 victory on Monday and added two more on Tuesday, including a grand slam by Kevin Youkilis that proved to be the deciding blast in a 7-3 triumph. Youkilis has 11 of his 15 homers since being traded from Boston to the White Sox. Chicago is locked in an even tighter battle than New York, just two games ahead of the Detroit Tigers in the AL Central. Chris Sale gets another shot at win No. 15 tonight as he looks to help Chicago earn its first home sweep of the New York Yankees in 21 years. Sale (14-4, 2.72 ERA) has been a pleasant surprise in his first season as a starter, and he'll look to win a seventh straight home decision. The left-hander's three-start winning streak ended when he allowed four runs in 6 2-3 innings of a 4-2 defeat at Kansas City on Friday, but he hasn't lost at home since May 12 and is 6-0 with a 1.17 ERA in his last seven outings at U.S. Cellular. Sale will be opposed by Phil Hughes, who has struggled greatly on the road this season but has had plenty of success against the White Sox. Hughes (12-10, 4.23) is 3-0 with a 1.00 ERA in five career starts versus the White Sox after giving up two runs over eight innings in a 4-2 home victory July 1. He allowed three hits in six innings of a 6-0 win Aug. 2, 2011, in his last start in Chicago. Hughes allowed four runs - all unearned - over seven innings of his 6-4 win over Boston on Friday, improving to 9-3 with a 3.42 ERA in 13 home starts this season. The right-hander hasn't been nearly as good away from Yankee Stadium, going 3-7 with a 5.31 ERA. He's given up 11 runs in his last two road outings while failing to escape the fifth in either. Derek Jeter hit the game's first pitch for a homer Tuesday - passing Eddie Murray for 11th place on the career hits list - but the Yankees mustered only six hits the rest of the way.

Free Pick: Let's take a shot at the Over in this one. I know that Chris Sale is on the mound tonight for the Sox, but he has been hit a little of late with a 5.65 ERA in his last 5 starts. Granted 3 of those starts were on the road, but his two home starts during the 5 games were vs KC and Oakland. The Yanks are a much stronger offense than both of those teams, as they come in averaging 4.6 rpg vs lefties on the road and 4.95 rpg overall away from home. Chris has never faced the Yanks, but I don't expect this yanks offense to be faze3d by that here. They need to avoid the sweep here, so I look for them to swing good bats tonight. THe Chicago offense is very good at home and they put up 15 runs in the first 2 of the series. Overall Chicago averages 5.4 rpg at home and should be able to get plenty off of Phil Hughes, who has a 5.31 ERA on the road. I expect at least 10 runs in this one.
