Analysis: The Texas Rangers appeared to look tired and were fading but they have caught fire again winning their last five games in a row and regaining the lead in the AL West. The Rangers are 6-4 in their last 10 games, 22-17 on the road this season, and they have a game lead on the Oakland A’s in the American League West. Yu Darvish goes for his first victory in nearly six weeks Tuesday when the Texas Rangers open a three-game series against the host New York Yankees. The major-league leader in strikeouts fanned 10 batters in his lone career outing versus New York on April 24, 2012. Darvish (7-3, 2.84 ERA) is 0-2 in six starts since May 16 despite a 2.66 ERA. Texas (44-32) has supplied him with an average of 1.99 runs of support in those outings. He struck out 10 against Oakland last Tuesday, increasing his baseball-leading total to 137, but also allowed a season-high five runs over six innings in a 6-2 defeat.  2B Ian Kinsler, who had the tiebreaking RBI single in the seventh on Sunday, has 11 singles during his seven-game hitting streak. Kinsler is 2-for-9 in his career versus Kuroda.

The New York Yankees continue to play on without key pieces of their team but even so and despite having their share of up and downs on the field they remain very much in contention in the American League East. The Yankees are 4-6 in their last 10 games, 22-16 at home this season, and they are 2.5 games back in the AL East. Yu Darvish would be smart to keep an eye on promising rookie Zoilo Almonte, who wrapped up his first major-league series against Tampa Bay by going 7-for-11 with a home run and four RBIs. After totaling 13 runs in back-to-back wins over Tampa Bay, the Yankees were 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position in a 3-1 defeat to the Rays on Sunday. 1B Mark Teixeira is still experiencing pain in his right wrist after receiving a cortisone shot more than a week ago. Before beating the Dodgers, Kuroda posted an 0-3 mark in his previous five starts despite permitting just 14 runs. The 38-year-old is 1-2 in his career versus Texas, despite striking out 16 batters and registering a 2.57 ERA. Kuroda is 5-2 with a 2.08 ERA at Yankee Stadium this season.

Pick: I like the Yanks in this one. They have owned Texas at home, winning 11 of the last 13 played here and Kuroda has been solid at Yankee Stadium this year. The Rangers offense has struggled to score of late, especially for Darvish, giving him just 1.99 rpg in his last 6 starts. Coming off a 3 game sweep of the Cardinals, the Rangers may be a bit flat, giving the a great shot at a solid home win here.
