MLB Tuesday Cincinnati Reds at Los Angeles Dodgers: Start Time, Odds, Free Pick

145144222_crop_650x440

Tuesday night baseball and we will see the Cincinnati Reds take on the Los angeles Dodgers in game 2 of their 3 game series. The game is scheduled for a 10:10 (ET) pm start time and it will be televised live on FSOH (Cincinnati) and KCAL (Los Angeles). Currently the odds have Cincinnati favored at -115, while the Dodgers are dogs of +108. The total for the game sits at 6.5 runs.

Free Analysis: Cincinnati has made itself at home at Dodger Stadium - winning five straight games, including Monday's 8-2 series opener. Devin Mesoraco and Todd Frazier drove in three runs apiece as the Reds improved to 3-2 on their West Coast trip and maintained a one-game lead over Pittsburgh in the National League Central. The Cincinnati offense has gotten a ton of notoriety over the past several years with good reason but the bats haven't done anything out of the ordinary over the last several weeks until they exploded for 8 runs last night. Starter Homer Bailey was the beneficiary of the scoring burst although he didn't need it with two runs allowed on five hits over eight innings of work. Injuries continue to pile up for the Cincinnati Reds as First baseman Joey Votto (knee), third baseman Scott Rolen (back) and now shortstop Zack Cozart (head) are the latest players to suffer injuries for the Reds. Votto missed his second straight game on Monday, when Cincinnati opened this series with an 8-2 win. Rolen also missed the game and Cozart sustained a mild concussion when he was hit in the head by a pitch. Johnny Cueto goes for his 10th win of the season this evening for Cincinnati and had a personal four-start winning streak cut short his last time out in a 5-0 loss at San Francisco last Thursday. Cueto allowed three runs -- two earned -- in six innings to fall to 9-4 in 16 starts with a 2.26 earned run average. johnny is 1-3 with a 3.41 ERA in 5 starts vs LA. The Dodgers are reeling right now as they have lost 12 of their last 14 games. The main reason is the offense has suddenly disappeared and it's no coincidence that Matt Kemp is on the disabled list in this stretch. The bats continued to struggle Monday and when the pitching of Chad Billingsley was solid the team had a shot. However, Billingsley left after six innings with three runs allowed and than three relievers gave up five runs although just two were earned. The offense mustered only six hits and a walk with a sacrifice fly and Jerry Hairston's slo blast accounting for the scoring. The Dodgers have now hit just .180 and have scored 1.8 rpg in their last 10 games. Chris Capuano was also an All-Star snub and leads the Dodgers with nine wins this season. He will go for his 10th tonight and hopes to rebound from last Thursday's 3-2 loss to the New York Mets in which he yielded all three runs and five hits in seven innings. Capuano, who is 9-3 with a 2.69 ERA in 16 starts, was 2-0 in his previous four appearances. The left-hander has pitched well at home in 2012 as evidenced by his 5-1 record in eight outings at Dodger Stadium, and is 3-3 in 15 career games, 12 of which have been starts, against the Reds.

Free Pick: Last night I had the OVER in this game, but tonight we will look to the UNDER. not only is their good pitching on the mound, but both offenses are missing key stars and that will make it hard for a lot of scoring to happen here. The Reds have been with out Votto and Rolen for a couple of games, but should also be without Cozart tonight. The Reds put up 8 runs last night, but they had averaged 2.5 rpg in their previous 4 games on this trip and for the year they hit just .216 and score 3.36 rp/9 off of lefties on the road. The Reds offense will be going up against a tough lefty tonight in Chris Capuano, who has been nearly unhittable at home, posting a 1.87 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP in 8 home starts, with those home starts averaging just 5.6 rpg. Johnny Cueto has been very good for the reds this year and may be looking for an awesome outing after being snubbed for the All Star game. Johnny has a 2.24 ERA in 9 road starts, with those starts averaging just 5.2 rpg. He should have no problems holding down an LA team with many key offensive injuries and a team that has scored just 12 runs in their last 8 games. A classic pitcher's duel in LA tonight.
