MLB Sunday Oakland A's at Chicago White Sox Preview: Start Time, Odds, Free Pick

Hi-res-149823071_crop_exact

Sunday afternoon baseball and we will see the Oakland A's take on the Chicago White Sox in game 3 of their 3 game series from US Cellular Field in Chicago. The game is scheduled for a 2:10 (ET) pm start time and it will be televised live on TBS, CS California (Oakland) and CS Chicago. Currently the odds have Chicago favored at -151, while Oakland is dogs of +142. The total for the game sits at 8 runs.

Free Analysis: Chicago (61-51) overcame a 6-2 deficit Saturday to take a 7-6 lead in the seventh before Gomes tied it with a homer and Brandon Inge later followed with a tiebreaking single in the eighth. Backup catcher Tyler Flowers had three hits with three RBIs and Kevin Youkilis hit a two-run homer for Chicago, which has dropped three of four but still owns a one-game lead in the AL Central. A.J. Pierzynski, who added two hits with an RBI, is batting .378 with six home runs and 15 RBIs in his last 10 games. However, he's hit .184 (7 for 38) with one homer versus Colon. The White Sox are batting a combined .261 (30-for-115) against Colon. Dunn is 5-for-8 with a home run and three RBIs, while Kevin Youkilis is only 1-for-8 with three strikeouts. Oakland’s Yoenis Cespedes was 2-for-3 with an RBI in his lone game against Sale. The rest of the Athletics are a combined 6-for-30 (.200) against the left-hander. The key to Oakland’s success has been a pitching staff that ranks fifth in the major leagues in ERA and is second in the AL in runs allowed. Bartolo Colon might be having as much fun this year with the Oakland Athletics as he had in any of his previous 14 major league seasons.Out of the major leagues only two years ago, the resurgent Colon has been solid all season but has been particularly tough in his last three starts, winning three straight while allowing only one unearned run in 20 2/3 innings. The 39-year-old has shown outstanding control, walking no more than one hitter in each of his last eight starts. Colon, who pitched for the White Sox in 2003 and 2009, is 10-7 with a 3.89 ERA in 21 starts against them. He allowed solo homers to Adam Dunn and Paul Konerko in seven innings of a 4-0 home loss to Chicago on April 23. He last won four straight starts May 30-July 2, 2011, with the Yankees. This will be his first appearance since 2009 at U.S. Cellular Field and he will be opposed by Chris Sale (13-3, 2.59), who has allowed five runs and struck out 39 over 47 1-3 innings while going 5-0 in his last six starts at home. The left-hander's latest home win came Monday, when he gave up two homers in eight innings of a 4-2 home victory over the Royals. Sale is 1-0 with a 4.36 ERA in six appearances against the A's. He allowed two runs in eight innings of a 5-4, 14-inning loss April 25 in his only previous start versus Oakland.  The surging Athletics have won 10 of their last 13 away games, improving their road record to 27-26 on the season.

Free Pick: I like the Under in this one. I know both offenses have been hot, but these two pitchers have been very good this year. Bartolo Colon comes in with a 22.1 scoreless streak and he has a solid 2.81  ERA on the road this year. He should be able to hold the Chicago bats down today. AJ Pierzynski is the Sox hottest hitter right now, but he is just 7 for 38 in his career vs Colon. Adam Dunn is 5-8 with a HR vs him, but Youkilis is just 1-8. Chris Sale has struggled at times on the road, but at home he hasd been solid, with a 1.71 ERA an 0.85 WHIP. Chris also has a solid 2.37 ERA in day starts. Chris' 9 home starts have averaged 8 rpg, while Bartolo's road starts have averaged just 6.44 rpg. The A's score well on the road, but not today and behind these starters we have a couple of solid pens. No more than 6 runs in this one.
