MLB Picks Boston Red Sox vs Chicago White Sox

The Boston Red Sox are in the Windy City tonight to open a three game set with the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field. This evening’s game is scheduled to get underway at 8:10pm ET. The Red Sox roll into this evening’ contest a on major run as they extended their current winning streak to five guys with yesterday’s 5-1 win over the Twins in Minnesota. The victory, which improved Boston’s record to 27-17, completed a sweep of Minnesota and left them a half game behind the Yankees in the AL East standings.

The Red Sox will to continue their winning ways with the unbeaten Jon Lester on the hill. Lester is 6-0 with a 2.72 ERA and 1.01 WHIP. The 29 year old lefty has limited his last three opponents to five earned and 14 hits over 22 innings; he also struck out 17 batters while walking just three in those same outings. Lester has experienced modest success in nine career starts against the White Sox, though, earning a 4-4 record to go along with a 5.20 ERA.

Chicago comes into tonight’s game off a 1-2 series loss to the Angels in Anaheim. The White Sox had won four of five prior to their two most recent setbacks, helping them draw to within two games of the break even point.

Chicago’s Dylan Axelrod will attempt to get the White Sox back on track as he takes the ball tonight. Axelrod garnered his first win of the season his last time out, but credit for the victory belonged mostly to Chicago’s offense, which cranked out nine runs in defeating the Twins. Axelrod, who is 1-3 with a 4.27 ERA and 1.32 WHIP, allowed nine hits and three earned runs over 5.1 innings.

The White Sox, who are 1-4 in Axelrod’s last five starts, are 2-6 in their last eight meetings with the Red Sox.
