MLB Odds St Louis Cardinals vs Pittsburgh Pirates

National League division continues today and we will see the St Louis Cardinals take on the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. First pitch is scheduled for a 3:07 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised on TBS.

Current Odds

St Louis      -115
Pittsburgh   +105

Over/ Under: 7.5 U -115

Analysis: The Cardinals are now down 2-1 in the series after losing a hard fought 5-3 battle yesterday. Starter Joe Kelly didn't have his best stuff with three runs allowed (two earned) on five hits and three BB over 5.1 frames before Carlos Martinez took the loss with two runs plated in the 8th. Carlos Beltran did homer in the game and he now has 2 homers and 6 RBs in the series. CF Jon Jay (8-for-16), C Yadier Molina (8-for-19) and Beltran (6-for-15) are all batting .400 or better versus Morton. St. Louis is pinning its hopes on 22-year-old rookie right-hander Michael Wacha to keep its season alive and force a winner-take-all Game 5 in St. Louis on Wednesday. Michael Wacha was 4-1 with a 2.78 ERA on the year. Wacha pitched seven scoreless innings of two-hit ball versus the Pirates on Sept. 8.

The Pirates waited 21 years for a post season birth and now they are just 1 game from moving on to the next round. After yesterdays win the Pirates are now 8-3 at home vs the Cardinals this year. Marlon Byrd has five RBIs in four postseason games, including the wild-card win over Cincinnati, while Pedro Alvarez has two blasts and four RBIs. The Pirates will counter with Charlie Morton, who has lost six consecutive decisions to the Cardinals and has not beaten them since April 4, 2011. Morton has never had much success against the Cardinals and that continued this season with an 0-2 record, 7.90 ERA and .397 batting average against in three starts.

Pick: Have to go with the Cardinals in this one. The Cardinals have really teed off on Morton in his career and with heir backs against the wall here, I expect them to do the same in this one. Mike Wacha gives the Cards the edge on the mound, and their offense will come alive in this desperation spot. Cards should tie the series after this one.
