MLB Odds Philadelphia Phillies at San Francisco Giants

Monday night baseball and we will see the Philadelphia Phillies take on the San Francisco Giants at AT&T park in San Francisco. First pitch is scheduled for a 10:15 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised locally. Current Betting Odds, according to Sportsbook.ag, have San Francisco listed as the favorite.

Current Odds

Philadelphia     +130
San Francisco  -140

Over/ Under: 6 -110

Analysis:  The Phillies dropped five games behind the first-place Atlanta Braves in the National League East with a 14-2 loss to the Marlins, which included another poor outing by ace Roy Halladay. After the game, the Phillies announced that Halladay’s sore right shoulder will likely require a stint on the disabled list. "When the game starts, we're up and ready to play. Then we have trouble scoring runs and hitting the ball consistently," manager Charlie Manuel told the Phillies' official website after Sunday's 14-2 defeat. Jimmy Rollins is in a 2-for-18 slump, Chase Utley has gone 1 for 16 this month and Carlos Ruiz is 2 for 20 since his 25-game suspension ended. Cliff Lee has gone winless in his last four starts since opening the season 2-0. He struggled against the Cleveland Indians last Wednesday, when he gave up five runs (four earned) over six innings. The Phillies have scored just 15 runs while Lee is in the game over his first six starts. Pence is 3-for-8 with a home run against Lee, who is 4-0 with a 0.63 ERA in five career starts against San Francisco. The three-time All-Star tossed 10 scoreless innings in his only start against the Giants last season.

The San Francisco Giants look for their seventh straight win tonight when they host the Philadelphia Phillies. The Giants have won 10 of their last 12 home games, and they’re coming off a three-game sweep of the rival Los Angeles Dodgers. San Francisco won each of the three games by one run, and closer Sergio Romo has converted 12 saves in 13 opportunities. Center fielder Angel Pagan missed Sunday’s contest with a right hamstring strain and is listed as day-to-day. Right fielder Hunter Pence, who struggled after being traded from Philadelphia last season, has hit safely in 25 of the Giants' first 31 games. Madison Bumgarner has turned in a quality start in five of his first six outings, including last Tuesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks when he allowed three hits over seven shutout innings. “He could have five wins,” Giants manager Bruce Bochy told reporters. “We’re not getting a lot of runs for him, but he’s doing what we need, and that’s putting up zeroes for us.” Opponents are batting .181 against Bumgarner, who is 1-1 with a 2.57 ERA in two regular-season starts against the Phillies.

Pick: I like the Phils in this spot. I feel it is a good situation for them to pick up a nice win. the Phils have struggled this year and just lost 2 in a row to the lowly Miami Marlins. Now I always feel that when a team struggles at home the best thing is for them to get out on the road and away from the pressure's of home. On the other side we have a Giants team that is ripe for a letdown as they just swept the Dodgers and now take on a Philadelphia team that lost 14-2 and 2-0 in their last 2 to the Marlins. The Giants should have a letdown from that sweep and a bit of overconfidence by playing a Phils team that is struggling mightily. Both starters are pitching well, but Cliff lee has 20 scoreless innings in this park and that should be the difference here. I look for Lee to out duel Bumgarner as the Phils start of their trip with a win.
