The
Kansas City Royals return home today from a three game stint in Baltimore and waiting for them are the AL East leading
New York Yankees. This evening’s series opener between the two squads is scheduled to get underway at 8:10pm ET at Kauffman Stadium. The latest
MLB Odds have the Royals listed as a slight -115 moneyline favorite ($115 wins $100) and the Over/Under set at 8.5 runs (Under is favored at -120 odds). The Yankees are drawing -105 to win tonight’s game.
Kansas City left town on a sour note on Monday after losing to the White Sox 2-1 in extra innings; however, they returned home on a high last night after avoiding a sweep in Baltimore.
The Royals, sporting a revamping batting order, topped the Orioles 6-2 to bring their road record to an even 8-8 on the season. Kansas City will attempt to bring its home record to 11-5 tonight and stay at least a half game back of the first place Tigers in the AL Central.
Getting the call for the Royals tonight is 27 year old righty Wade Davis. Davis owns a lackluster 4.75 ERA and his WHIP is a dreadful 1.85; however, those less than stellar numbers can mostly be attributed to back to back poor starts late last month. The former Ray allowed 20 hits, 11 earned runs, and seven walks over 8.1 innings in losses to the Indians and Tigers. He rebounded, though, in his last outing, giving up five hits and one earned run over six innings in a 6-5 win over the White Sox.
Davis is 2-3 with a 3.96 ERA in 10 career appearances against the Yankees (six starts).
New York, which finds itself in a three way tie with Boston and Baltimore for first place in the AL East, will seek its 21st win of the season with Phil Hughes on the hill. Hughes brings a 1-2 record into this evening’s game, but he has been exemplary in his last three starts, allowing just 17 hits and four earned runs while striking out 24 (21 innings pitched) in wins over the Rays, Jays, and Athletics.
Hughes owns an impressive 4-1 record in seven appearances opposite KC (six starts); however, his career ERA against the Royals is an ugly 5.51.
Notable Trends: The Royals are 6-2 in their last eight games as a home favorite with a total between 8.5 and 9.
New York Yankees Over 8.5 (+100), -105 (Moneyline)
Kansas City Royals Under 8.5 (-120), -115 (Moneyline)
