MLB Odds Miami Marlins vs Cincinnati Reds

The Cincinnati Reds will look to extend their current winning streak to four games tonight when they welcome the Miami Marlins to the Great American Ball Park. This evening’s contest, the first in a four game set, is scheduled to get underway at 7:10pm ET. The latest MLB Odds have the hosting Reds listed as a -180 moneyline favorite ($180 wins $100) and the Over/Under set at 7.5 runs (Under is favored at -120 odds).

Cincinnati jumped out to a 5-2 start this season but a five game skid between April 9th and April 14th had the team looking up at the Pirates and Cardinals in the NL Central standings. The Reds have since recovered, though, and they enter tonight’s series opener with Miami off a three game home sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Cincinnati’s pitching staff, despite an injury to ace Johnny Cueto (tricep), yielded just four runs in the series with Philly. They should have little difficulty doing the same against the Marlins lineup, which presently ranks dead last in the league with 32 runs scored.

Rookie hurler Tony Cingrani, who was called up to fill in for Cueto, will get first crack at the punch-less Marlins tonight. Cingrani, a phenomenal southpaw prospect, has been outstanding in the minor leagues this season, striking out 26 batters over 14.1 innings of work for the Reds Triple-A club in Louisville. He produced a 1.80 ERA in three relief appearances for Cincinnati last September; he allowed four hits and one earned run while striking out nine in five innings of bullpen work.

Countering Cingrani this evening is 20 year old right hander Jose Fernandez. The Cuba native has been outstanding in his first two major league starts, limiting the Mets and Phillies to give hits and one earned run over 11 innings. Despite his stellar performance in those two outings, he did not earn a decision.

Notable Trends: The Under is 8-2 in the Reds last 10 games as a home favorite with a total between 7.5 and 8 runs. The Marlins are 0-10 in their last 10 games as a road dog against a left handed pitcher with a moneyline spread between 140 and 160 and total between 7.5 and 8 runs.

Miami Marlins +1.5 (-145), Over 7.5 (+100), +160 (Moneyline)

Cincinnati Reds -1.5 (+125), Under 7.5 (-120), -180 (Moneyline)
