Major League Baseball Odds Los Angeles Angels vs Atlanta Braves

EAGUE

Saturday night baseball and we will see the Los Angeles Angels take on the Atlanta Braves in game 2 of their 3 game series from Turner Field in Atlanta. First pitch is scheduled for a 7:05 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised on FOX.

Current Odds

Los Angeles        -112
Atlanta               +102

Over/ Under: 7.5 U -125

Analysis:  The Los Angeles Angels come in at 36-30 on the year and have won 6 of their last 8 games. The Halos are still 3.5 games behind the A's in the AL West, but the gap is closing. The Angels come in ranked 4th in the league in scoring (4.72 rpg), 10th in hitting (.256) and 8th in homers (67). The pitching for the Halos has been decent, as they come in ranked 14th in the league in ERA (3.79), 7th in WHIP (1.24) and 5th in Ks (538). Garrett Richards gets the ball for the Halos tonight and he has pitched very well in the early part of the year, going 6-2 with a 3.09 ERA overall, including 4-1 with a 2.08 ERA on the road. Garrett has never faced the Braves, but he is 2-0 with a 1.09 ERA in 12 appearances (5 starts) in interleague play.

The Atlanta Braves are not playing their best ball right now, as they come in having won just 7 of their last 17 games. Still they won last night and Washington lost, so they are now tied with the Nats for first place in the NL East.  The Braves have really struggled at the plate this year, as they come in ranked 28th in scoring (3.59 rpg), 23rd in hitting (.243) and 10th in homers (66). The Pitching has been the thing that has kept this team afloat this year, as they come in ranked 4th in ERA (3.27), 10th in WHIP (1.25) and 1st in quality starts (47). The Braves will be sending out Gavin Floyd, who is 1-2 with a 2.57 ERA on the year overall, and 0-0 with a 2.89 ERA at home. Floyd has made 10 career starts vs the Angels and he is 2-6 with a 5.27 in those starts.

Pick:  I will be going with the Halos tonight. The Braves took game one of this series, but still Los Angels has been the far more consistent team of late and I feel they have the pitching edge in this one as well. Garret Richards has been solid on the road this year, with a 4-1 mark and a 2.08 ERA and he should have the edge here as the braves have never seen him. Gavin Floyd has pitched well this year, he doesn't get much run support and he also has bad career number vs the Angels, going just 2-6 with a 5.27 ERA in 10 career starts vs them. Look for the Angels to get last night's loss back here.
