MLB Odds Boston Red Sox vs Tampa Bay Rays

Game 3 of the ALDS takes place tonight and we will see the Boston Red Sox take on the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field in Florida. First pitch is scheduled for a 6:05 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised on TBS.

Current Odds

Boston              -113
Tampa bay       +103

Over/ Under: 7 U -115

Analysis: The Boston Red Sox are one game away from advancing to the American League Championship Series after taking both games between these teams in Boston. After crushing the Rays, 12-2, in Game 1, Boston came right back in Game 2 with a 7-4 victory, as David Ortiz smacked two solo homers in the win. Jacoby Ellsbury had three hits, three runs scored and an RBI and Dustin Pedroia drove in three for Boston, which has tallied 25 hits through the first two games. Getting the ball for the Sox tonight is Clay Buchholz, who was 12-1 with a 1.74 ERA o the year. Buchholz went 3-1 with a 1.88 ERA in four starts after returning from a shoulder injury that cost him three months during the regular season.  Buchholz holds a 2.26 ERA at Tropicana Field, which is the best mark among active starters with a minimum of 35 innings.

Tampa Bay went 51-30 at home during the regular season, tied for the third-best home record in the AL behind the Red Sox and the Oakland Athletics. Tampa, will counter with righty Alex Cobb, who tossed 6 2/3 scoreless innings to beat the Cleveland Indians in Wednesday's wild card game. Cobb went 11-3 with a 2.25 ERA this year in his first full season and was a remarkable 7-0 with a 2.81 ERA in 13 starts at home. A native of Boston, Cobb is just 2-2 with a 4.19 ERA in seven starts against the Red Sox. Tampa lost all four of his starts versus Boston this season. Rookie Wil Myers is 1-for-13 with five strikeouts in his first three postseason games.

Pick: I like the Sox to close out the series in this one. Buchholz has been awesome the whole year long and the Boston bats have been hot of late. I know they did their damage at the plate at home, but I feel that will continue here as Cobb has a 4.19 career ERA vs Boston, including a 5.16 ERA in 4 starts vs the Sox this year, while the Rays losing all 4 of his starts vs them. Boston does not wanna give the Rays any hope, so I look for them to get the sweep tonight.
