The Tampa Bay Rays are hosting the Boston Red Sox tonight in Major League Baseball action. The game is scheduled for a 7:10 p.m. start time and the Red Sox are favored to pick up the victory on the road.
Tampa Bay has slowly faded away into the bottom of the American League East standings. Boston has been in a bit of a lull as well, winning just four times over the past 10 games overall. The Red Sox are now four full games back in the standings beyond Baltimore, the Rays are nearly 14 games back.
The pitching matchup tonight isn’t a great one. The Rays are sending youngster Blake Snell to the mound. He’s started three games this season but has yet to win, although Snell has surrendered just four earned runs in 15 innings.
The Red Sox will throw Eduardo Rodriguez, he’s 1-2 with a 6.41 ERA over five starts this season. Rodriguez has been giving up too many home runs with seven in 26 innings. Boston would certainly benefit from a good start tonight, though they have been a decent team away from home, posting a record of 18-16.
Tonight’s game could see some offense. Boston has been inconsistent of late but should be able to hit the youngster. Tampa Bay has now lost 11 in a row and is on the verge of completely falling apart. They have to find a way to get it figured out somehow, getting the offense going against a guy like Rodriguez could help.
