Friday night baseball and we will see the Texas Rangers travel west to take on the Los Angeles Angels in game 1 of their 3 game series. The game is scheduled for a 10:05 (ET) pm start time and it will be televised live on TXA-21 (Texas) and FSN West (Los Angeles). Currently the odds have Los Angeles favored at -146, while Texas is dogs of +137. The total for the game sits at 7.5 runs.
Free Analysis: Texas continues its eight-game road trip on which it took two of three in Seattle before splitting a two-game set in Oakland. The Rangers (55-36), who have won five of seven overall, trail the Yankees (57-35) by 1 1/2 games for the best record in the major leagues. Josh Hamilton is mired in a 4-for-31 slump with 10 strikeouts and two home runs for his only extra-base hits in that span. He still leads the majors with 78 RBIs to go with his 28 homers. Derek Holland (6-4, 4.57) will make his first 2012 start against the Angels. He's 4-3 with a 4.76 ERA in nine starts versus them. The 25-year-old has allowed three runs or less in four of his last five starts and is 4-1 with a 2.58 ERA in six road outings this season. Texas LHP Robbie Ross had his consecutive scoreless-inning streak snapped at 24 on Wednesday. It was the longest stretch by a Ranger since Darren O'Day went 26 1/3 frames without yielding a run. Jered Weaver's only loss this season came on the road to the Texas Rangers back in May. It figures to be a different story in Anaheim tonight. Weaver (11-1, 2.26 ERA) is 6-0 with a 1.63 ERA in eight starts since giving up a season-high eight runs over 3 1-3 innings in a 13-6 defeat to Texas (55-36) on May 13. That contest was in Arlington, however. Weaver is 6-0 with a major league-best 0.58 ERA in seven 2012 home starts, and he's 7-0 with a 2.23 ERA in 12 at home against the Rangers. The teams have split six meetings with 13 remaining. Former Angels catcher Mike Napoli is 8 for 18 with six runs in the season series and Nelson Cruz is 10 for 24 with two homers, one off Weaver. Rookie of the Year candidate Mike Trout is 10 for 24 with seven RBIs for Los Angeles. Albert Pujols (3 for 19), Erick Aybar (2 for 16), Alberto Callaspo (3 for 20) and Torii Hunter (1 for 17) have all struggled. Callaspo is the Angels' best hitter against Holland with a .389 average.
Free Pick: We will go with the Halos in this one. Jered weaver has been lights out at home this year, as he is 6-0 with an 0.68 ERA and an 0.56 WHIP. He has struggled in his last 2 starts vs the Rangers, but both were on the road and the Angels are 4-0 in his last 4 starts vs them here, and he has a 1.30 ERA in those starts. Jered is off a bad start vs the Yanks and will be looking to bounce back strong here vs a Rangers team that has averaged just 3.2 rpg in their last 5 games (all on road). Derek Holland has had a nice year and is 4-1 with a 2,58 ERA on the road, but in his last 3 trips here he has struggled with a 1-1 mark and a 7.13 ERA. The Halos are 8-0 in Jered's last 8 starts and that streak should continue here behind another solid home outing from their Ace.
