The offense for the Dodgers has been solid this year as they have averaged 4.5 rpg (12th) and have hit at a .260 clip, which is 8th in the league. They are also 8th in the league in HRs with 12. Dee Gordon leads the team with a .405 BA, while Adrian Gonzalez leads them in both HRs (4) and RBIs (11). Yasiel Puig has struggled out the gate some, hitting just .265 with 1 HR and 5 RBIs so far this year. Pitching has been solid for the Dodgers this year as they rank 6th in ERA (3.06), 5th in WHIP (1.16) and 2nd in Ks (119). Today it will be Dan Haren on the mound for LA and he comes in at 1-0 with an 0-75 ERA in 2 starts so far this year. In 2 career starts vs the Diamondbacks he is 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA.
For Arizona, they have had a miserable start to their year as they come in at 4-10 overall and just 1-7 at home. The seat under coach Kirk Gibson must be getting mighty hot these days. Mark Trumbo was brought in to help their power numbers and he has done that so far, as he leads the team in both HRs (5) and RBIs (15), While Paul Goldschmidt leads the team in both BA (.327) and doubles (7), plus he is 2nd in RBIs (8). The problem for this team has been their pitching that ranks 30th in the league in ERA (5.88) and 29th in WHIP (1.56). Today it will be Trevor Cahil on the mound and he has been hit hard in the early going as he comes in with a 7.90 ERA and a 2.05 WHIP in 3 starts this year so far. He is 6-1 with a 2.87 ERA in 11 career starts vs the Dodgers.
Pick: Let's go with the over in this one. This Arizona staff is just awful righ now as they are last in the league in ERA and Trevor Cahill is a big part of that. He has a 7.90 ERA on the year so far and in start vs the Dodgers he allowed 5 ERs in just 4 innings of work. Can't See it getting much better in this one vs an LA squad that has averaged 5.8 rpg in their last 5 games. The Diamonbacks have struggled some on offense, but still the have averaged 4 rpg on the year and getting at least 4 runs from them in this one would be golden. It could be hard vs Dan Haren, who has pitched well so far, but does have a 4.67 ERA and a 4.33 ERA the last 2 years and he has a career ERA of 3.87 on the road, so I don't expect his .075 ERA to last, especially vs a desperate Arizona squad in this one. The Diamondbacks have allowed 6.14 rpg and their games have averaged 10.14 rpg for the year. I see another DD run game in this one.
