Analysis: The Arizona Diamondbacks are off to a rough 2-8 start to the year, and this series didn't start off well for them as they lost 7-3 yesterday. Offense hasn't really been an issue for this team as they have averaged 4 rpg through 10 games thus far. Mark Trumbo has given the D-Backs just what they were expecting from him, as he has 5 homers and 13 RBIs in the early going thus far. OF Cody Ross (hip) is playing the field on a rehab assignment and could be back with the team soon. Getting the ball for Arizona tonight is Bronson Arroyo, who did all 2 ER's on 5 hits in 4.1 innings of work vs the Giants in his first start of the year, but still he is 2-0 with a 1.78 ERA in his last 5 starts vs them.
For the Giants, they have gotten off to a nice 6-2 start. Offense has not at all been a problem for this team as they have averaged 5.88 rpg thus far. They are led by the surprising start of Brandon Belt, who has 5 homers and 9 RBIs in the early going so far. Angel Pagan has been solid for them at the top of the lineup as he has 15 hits so far, while leading the Giant in hitting with a .441 average. Michael Morse is 5-for-9 with three RBIs in the last three games. Taking the mound for the Giants tonight is Tim Lincecum, who started off this year just like his last few years. Struggling. The Freak allowed 4 ERs on 8 hits in 6 innings of work vs the D-Backs in his first start this year ad he now has gone 1-2 with a 5.78 ERA in his last 5 starts vs them.
Pick: I will be going with the over in this game. The Giants are really scoring some runs this year as they have averaged a solid 5.88 rpg through 8 games this year and they had 5 hits, 2 walks and 2 ER's in just 4.1 innings vs Bronson Arroyo earlier in the year. another thing we have going for us in this one is an Arizona bullpen that has a 5.85 ERA this year. On offense, Arizona has not been all that bad as they have averaged 4 rpg and they did score 4 runs off of Tim Lincecum earlier in the year. Tim now has a 6.65 ERA in his last 8 starts vs the Diamondbacks. The Over is 16-5 in Arizona's last 21 games vs a right-handed starter and the Over is 10-1 in San Fran's last 11 vs the NL West. This one should get there rather easily.
