Mississippi State vs Oklahoma State College Football Point Spreads Week 1

Oddly, the Texas Kickoff Classic (3:30pm ET, ABC), which takes place tomorrow afternoon at Reliant Stadium in Houston, does not feature any teams from the Lone Star State. The match up is a good one nonetheless as Mississippi State faces Big 12 favorite Oklahoma State. The odds makers are expecting a tightly contested affair, though. The latest College Football Point Spreads Week 1 from 5Dimes have Mike Gundy's Cowboys listed as a -13 against the spread favorite; the Over/Under is set at 62.5 points.

Mississippi State got off to a wonderful 7-0 start last season, but it amassed its impressive record against poor to mediocre competition. The real Bulldogs were revealed in the season's second half as they were decimated by teams like Alabama, Texas A&M, LSU, and Ole Miss.

Mississippi State lost those four games by an average of 23.3 points and it fell 20-34 to Northwestern in the TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl.

The Bulldogs poor finish did little to stir optimism in Starkville that Dan Mullen's squad is ready to move up the SEC ranks. Mississippi State's overall schedule is far less forgiving this year and its conference slate it brutal as well with South Carolina taking the place of Tennessee.

The Bulldogs will be tested right out of the chute this season as they travel to Houston to face No. 13 Oklahoma State in the Texas Kickoff Classic at Reliant Stadium.

The Cowboys, like the Bulldogs, are coming off an 8-5 season, but they are more highly regarded than their week one opponent. Oklahoma State returns 15 starters (eight offense, seven defense) and 47 lettermen and its defense may actually be on par with its offense this season. That is saying something considering the Pokes have averaged over 44 points per game each of the last three years.

Defensive coordinator Glenn Spencer has a wealth of athletic and talented players at his disposal and the team speed on the defensive side of the ball should create a lot of problems for the Bulldogs offense.

College Football Point Spreads Betting Trend: Oklahoma State is 7-1 straight up and 6-2 against the spread in its last eight games as a favorite with a total of 54.5 or more points. Conversely, Mississippi State is 1-9 straight up and 2-8 against the spread in its last 10 games as an underdog with a game total of 54.5 or more points.

Mississippi State vs Oklahoma State College Football Point Spreads Week 1:

Mississippi State Bulldogs +13 (-110), Over 62.5 (-110), +395 (Moneyline)

Oklahoma State Cowboys -13 (-110), Under 62.5 (-110), -495 (Moneyline)
