Nebraska can absolutely cover this number if Tommy Armstrong Jr. plays. If the line is any indication whether or not he will play, it looks like he could be suiting up. Head coach Mike Riley said the medical staff will ultimately make the decision on Armstrong’s ability to play but with him being in the concussion protocol, it could be a game-time decision.
Minnesota is tied with the Huskers and Wisconsin for first place in the Big Ten West, all three have 7-2 records and are 4-2 in conference play. Wisconsin does own a win over these Huskers, so a win here by Minnesota all but knocks them out of the Big Ten title game sweepstakes. While there is a lot at stake here for Nebraska, it’s safe to assume they will do the right thing when it comes to Armstrong’s health. Minnesota is red hot with four straight wins, the two games they lose game by a combined 10 points to Penn State and Iowa.
The Gophers can run the football and the defense isn’t bad, either. Both Rodney Smith and Shannon?Brooks offer five-plus yards a carry coming out of the backfield and quarterback Mitch Leidner has the ability to beat people with his feet as well. Nebraska has to still be in an odd mental state following a massive blowout loss at Ohio State.
It would be tough for them to get back up for this game, especially if Armstrong is still banged up, for such a big game.
