Major league baseball on Wednesday night and I will have a free pick in the game between the San Diego Padres and the New York Mets, which will take place at Citi Field in New York. First pitch is scheduled for a 7:10 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised locally.
Betting Odds
San Diego +105
New York -115
Over/ Under: 7 U -115
The Mets took game 1 of this series behind an outstanding outing by Noah Syndergaard, who threw 8 shutout innings, allowing just 3 hits in the 4-0 win. The Mets are now 35-16 at home for the year and they have closed the gap in the NL East to just 1 game behind the Nats. The Padres are in 4th place in the NL West and are 9 games behind the first place Dodgers.
San Diego ranks 23rd in scoring (3.78 rpg), 30th in hitting (.235) and 19th in homers (85), while on the mound they are 17th in ERA (3.90) and 19th in WHIP (1.28). The Mets rank 30th in scoring (3.53 rpg), 29th in hitting (.236) and 20th in homers (83), while on the mound they are 3rd in ERA (3.23) and 1st in WHIP (1.17).
Getting the ball for the Padres tonight will be Tyson Ross, who is 6-8 with a 3.45 ERA in 21 starts this year overall, while on the road he is 3-3 with a 2.69 ERA in 12 starts. Tyson has 2 career starts vs the Mets and he is 1-0 with an 0.64 ERA in those starts.
Taking the hill for the Mets tonight will be Bartolo Colon, who is 9-9 with a 4.60 ERA in 19 starts this year, while at home he has gone 6-3 with a 3.80 ERA in 10 starts. Bartolo is 2-2 with a 2.67 ERA in 5 career starts vs the Mets.
Pick: Lets take a shot at the over here. the Padres failed to score last night, but that was vs a much tougher pitcher than they will face tonight. Bartolo Colon comes in with a 3.80 ERA at home and a 4.88 ERA at night plus a 5.04 ERA in his last 6 starts overall. The Padres have averaged 3.9 rpg on the road, so I do see them getting a few in this one. The Met offense is not that good, but they have taken some steps to upgrade and we note that they hit .248 at home vs righties, compared to .199 at home vs lefties. The Mets have scored 4.56 rp/9 off of righties at home. They will be taking on a tough pitcher in Tyson Ross, but I see the Mets offense having success vs him tonight. At the very least I expect 7 runs in this game.

Is SEC Football That Overrated?
It's a hot topic in college football these days--is the SEC as good as people make it out to be. Pregame's Pauly Howard thinks it is all hype, but Vegas betting expert Steve Fezzik has stats and numbers backing up his claim that, even with all the hype, the Southeastern Conference is still overrated. Check out the hot debate and Fezzik's challenge to Pauly.
