Major League Baseball Texas Rangers vs New York Yankees

Derek Jeter Signs 1-Year, $12 Million Deal to Stay with Yankees

The New York Yankees and Texas Rangers will play the opening game of their series tonight in Major League Baseball. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. Currently the odds for the game have the Yankees listed as a big favorite.

It's hard to believe that the Texas Rangers have the worst record in Major League Baseball. But they haven't been successful at really anything this season. The New York Yankees, on the other hand, are looking to stay alive in the American League Wild Card standings. Currently the Yankees are just 1.5 games outside of first place in those Wild Card standings, tied with Toronto.

The Los Angeles Angels are far and away the top team in those standings, already having won 59 games. But with the expansion to a couple of teams, we see Seattle has 52 victories on the year and the Yankees having 50. It's going to continue to be a tight race.

Tonight, the Yankees will send youngster Shane Greene to the mound. He's 2-0 with a 1.32 ERA on the season, having beaten both Cleveland and Baltimore in his starts this month. He has given the Yankees a young guy they can give the ball to without worrying about him throwing strikes or lasting a decent amount of time in a game. He's thrown at least six innings in both starts. With as many guys as the Yankees have on the disabled list from their pitching staff, having a guy like Greene to eat innings and actually get wins is a major plus for New York.

Texas, still reeling on the season, have lost two in a row. They're also 1-9 in their last 10 games. They are sending Miles Mikolas to the mound. The Rangers are also battling problems with injuries to their pitching staff and Mikolas hasn't really been able to find his footing yet. He's lost both starts with an ERA north of 10.00 on the season.

The Rangers are just 4-24 dating back to June 17. They have had guys in and out of the lineup all season and it's going to continue in this game tonight.

New York has been up and down at Yankee Stadium this season, but as bad as Texas has been the past month they are impossible to back in this situation.
