The MLB season continues this evening with a game between the St. Louis Cardinals and the host Chicago Cubs. The game is scheduled for an 8:05 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on MLB Network and MLB.tv. Currently the Major League Baseball Odds for the contest have the Cubs favored to pick up the win in this one at home.
MLB Odds
Cubs -120, Cardinals EVEN
Total: O 8 runs (-104), U 8 runs (-116)
I'm going to be making a play on the "under" 8 runs scored in this game between the Red Birds and the Cubs. That's not a ton of scoring and both teams have very solid pitchers tonight, so it's a number I feel comfortable with.
Sonny Gray (10-6, 3.79) starts for St. Louis, he has not been good the last month. In each of his four starts Gray has surrendered at least three earned runs — including going seven innings and yielding three to the Cubs not that long ago. In each of his other three starts, opponents have crossed the plate with five earned runs and two of those games were against the Nationals.
Shota Imanaga (8-2, 2.95) pitches for the Cubs. He has been rock solid all season and especially in the month of July where he's made four starts and yielded just seven earned runs. I like his ability to stay within himself here tonight and navigate the Cardinals lineup.
In total, I expect good starts from both guys. Not impressed with either offense despite some recent success and I look for a lower-scoring contest.
