The Pittsburgh Pirates host the San Francisco Giants tonight in Major League Baseball action. The game is scheduled for an 7:05 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on the MLB Network. Currently the odds for the game have the Pirates favored to pick up the win in this one.
The next four series are incredibly important to the San Francisco Giants. In a span of 13 games the Giants will take on the Pirates, Cubs, Cardinals and Dodgers. If they have a poor showing there's a good chance they fall back far enough that they have to start pressing the rest of the year. However, a successful next two weeks could really turn things around for the Giants, who will be looking to defend their World Series championship in the post season.
The Pirates will be throwing Charlie Morton tonight. He's 7-4 with a 4.36 ERA on the season in 15 starts and he has been pretty solid in home games, earning himself a record of 4-1 with a 3.25 ERA. Morton had a rough July but has looked like he could be in for a considerably better August. In three starts he's allowed seven earned runs but is just 1-0 in that time.
Current Giants are hitting .330 against him over 100 at bats, though no one has homered. Angel Pagan has the most success with nine hits in 16 plate appearances, Hunter Pence has eight hits.
The Giants are going to counter with Jake Peavy. The veteran bulldog is 3-5 this season, his ERA at 4.18 over the course of 10 starts, five each at home and on the road. Peavy is just 1-3 in road starts, his ERA at 4.23 over the span of 27 2/3 innings, but opponents are hitting just .238 against him in those games.
A solid outing from Peavy is what the Giants need tonight. Current Pirates are hitting a collective .250 against him in 56 at bats, Aramis Ramirez (7-of-30) and Travis Ishikawa (4-of-8) have homered off him.
This should be a solid contest between two good teams. The Giants really need a good two weeks, but it will be a tough start.

Vegas betting expert Steve Fezzik doesn’t expect the bad situation in Oakland to get much better this season. This AFC West team may have some improvements in terms of personnel, but Jack Del Rio is the latest in a carousel of ever-changing mediocre coaches, and Fezzik doesn’t expect he is the guy to turn this team around. He also thinks people are overstating Derek Carr’s abilities at quarterback, as he may do well in the fourth quarter, but his numbers are padded with garbage time performance.
