Clayton?Kershaw is throwing in this one for the Dodgers. He’s obviously getting a ton of respect here and as the best pitcher in the game, Kershaw has earned that respect. Last year he was dominant at Dodger Stadium, going 8-1 while holding opponents to a .152 batting average over 75 innings. He had an insane 1.08 ERA during that time, allowing only nine earned runs all season.
The Padres aren’t a great team and current Padres are hitting .149 against him in 67 at bats (10 hits) and they own 23 strikeouts in that span. Making the start for San Diego is journeyman Jhoulys Chacin. The Dodgers have really done well against him in 113 at bats, hitting .336 against him. To make it worse, over the last three seasons Chacin owns a 5.83 ERA on the road.
There’s no way you can lay this kind of juice despite Kershaw being the closest thing to a “sure bet” in sports. The run line is significantly cheaper, in the -144 to -155 range. Los Angeles should be able to score some runs against Chacin and the Padres probably won’t have too many successful at bats.
