Major League Baseball Odds Toronto Blue Jays vs Oakland A's

Sunday baseball and we will see the Toronto Blue Jays take on the Oakland A's in game 4 of their 4 game series from the O.co Coliseum in Oakland, California. First pitch is scheduled for a 4:05 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised locally.

Current Odds

Toronto      +142
Oakland      -157

Over/ Under: 7.5 O -115

Analysis: The Toronto Blue Jays come having won just 2 of their last 7 games and it has cost them the lead in the AL East, as they are currently a half game behind the Baltimore Orioles. The Blue Jays are a solid offensive team, ranking 5th in the league in scoring (4.59), 8th in hitting (.259) and 1st in homers (113). They have, however, scored just 1 total run in the two games of this series so far. The Pitching for the Jays has been a problem, as they come in ranked 22nd in ERA (3.97) and 25th in WHIP (1.35). Taking the hill for Toronto will be Drew Hutchinson, who is 6-6 with a 3.81 ERA on the year overall, while on the road he is 4-2 with a 2.23 ERA. Drew is 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA in 3 starts vs the A's this year.

The Oakland A's have the best record in baseball, at 54-33 and are currently 3.5 games ahead of the surging LA Angels in the AL West. The A's have also gone a solid 27-15 at home for the year as well. Offensively, the A's are top scoring team in the league, putting up 5 rpg, and they are 5th in homers (91), but they are a very average hitting team overall, ranking 16th in BA (.251). The pitching has been very good for the A's as well, as they rank 2nd in ERA (3.18) and 2nd in WHIP (1.17). Jeff Samardzija has been acquired from the Chicago Cubs and will be making his first start in an A's uniform. Jeff was 2-7 with a 2.83 ERA for the Cubs and he is just 2-4 with a 4.50 ERA in 9 career starts vs the American League. he has never faced the Astros.

Pick: Going with the Under in this one. Jeff Sam will be looking for a good outing in his first start for his new team and he has the added advantage of having never faced the Blue Jays. Another advantage is that he will be facing a Jays team without their best hitter in Edwin Encarnacion, who is likely going on the DL. The A's offense is tops in the league this year, but they will be facing a starter they have never seen before and Hutchinson has been very good on the road this year with a 2.23 ERA. I look for a 3-2 type game here.
