Analysis: The Toronto Blue Jays come having won just 2 of their last 9 games and it has cost them the lead in the AL East, as they are currently 2 games behind the Baltimore Orioles. Making matters worse for this team is the fact that they are now without Edwin Encarnacion, who was their best hitter and is now on the DL. The Blue Jays are a solid offensive team, ranking 5th in the league in scoring (4.52), 9th in hitting (.257) and 1st in homers (114). They did, however, score just 4 total runs in the 4 games vs the A's. The Pitching for the Jays has been a problem, as they come in ranked 22nd in ERA (3.98) and 26th in WHIP (1.36). Taking the hill for Toronto will be J.A. Happ, who is 7-4 with a 4.38 ERA on the year overall, while on the road he has gone 4-1 with a 5.14 ERA. Happ is 0-2 with a 9.45 ERA in 2 career starts vs the Halos.
The Los Angeles Angels are a hot team, as they come in having won 13 of their last 16 games, which puts them at 15 games over .500 for the year, while being just 3.5 games behind the Oakland A's in the AL West. The Angels have been a very good offensive team this year, ranking 2nd in the league in scoring (4.97 rpg), 4th in hitting (.265) and 4th in homers (97). This is the kind of offense that should be expected with all the talent on this team. The Pitching has been average as they come in ranked 17th in ERA (3.90) and 11th in WHIP (1.25). Getting the Ball for the Halos tonight will be Jered Weaver, who is 9-6 with a 3.56 ERA overall, while at home he is 5-2 with a 2.75 ERA. Jered is 9-2 with a 3.48 ERA in 11 career starts vs the Blue Jays.
Pick: I will look at the Over in this one. Jered Weaver has pitched well at home this year, but this Toronto Offense is due, as they come in off a 4 games series with the A's in which they scored just 4 total runs. Let's also note that Weaver has allowed 4 ERs or more in 4 of his last 7 games and behind him is a pretty weak bullpen. The Angel offense has been on fire lately, averaging 6.2 rpg in their last 10 games and they just put up 29 runs in the 4 game sweep of the Astros. J.A. Happ has a solid 7-4 record on the year, but his ERA is 4.38 overall, 5.14 on the road and 5.30 in his last 3 starts. He also has a 9.45 ERA in 2 career starts vs the Angels. The OVER is 12-3 the last 15 meeting and 7-2-2 in the Halos last 11 off a win. 10+ runs to be scored here.
