Major League Baseball Odds Los Angeles Dodgers vs St Louis Cardinals

Friday baseball and we will see the Los Angeles Dodgers take on the St Louis Cardinals in game 1 of their 3 game series from Busch Stadium in St Louis, Missouri. First pitch is scheduled for an 8:15 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised on MLB Network.

Current Odds

Los Angeles      +120
St Louis             -130

Over/ Under: 7.5 O -115

Analysis: The Los Angeles Dodgers won their last 2 games before the All-Star break to take the lead back in the NL West by a game over the San Francisco Giants. The Dodgers have been solid on the road this year, going 29-19 away from home, but they are 17-38 in their last 55 games in St Louis. The Dodgers have been a decent offensive team this year, as they come in ranked 12th in scoring (4.16 rpg), 7th in hitting (.258), 23rd in homers (76) and 1st in stolen bases (87). The pitching for the Dodgers has been solid, as they come in ranked 5th in ERA (3.29), 7th in WHIP (1.21) and 3rd in quality starts (62). Getting the ball for the Dodgers will be Dan Haren, who is 8-6 with a 4.23 ERA on the year overall, while on the road he is 4-4 with a 5.05 ERA. Dan is 4-1 with a 3.86 ERA in 6 career starts vs the Cardinals.

The St Louis Cardinals played well down the stretch of the first half, as they won 8 of their last 12 games and thanks to the collapse of the Brewers they are just 1 game out in the NL Central race. St Louis is a solid 27-20 at home this year. The Cardinals have been an awful offensive team this year, ranking 29th in scoring (3.75 rpg), 14th in hitting (.252) and 29th in homers (60). The pitching has been what has kept them around, as they are 8th in ERA (3.42) and 8th in WHIP (1.23). Getting the ball for the Cardinals tonight will be Lance Lynn, who is 10-6 with a 3.14 ERA on the year, while at home he has gone 6-2 with a 2.83 ERA. Lance is 2-1 with a 4.95 ERA in 4 career starts vs the Dodgers.

Pick:  Gonna go with the Cardinals here. I feel they start off a bit hot in the 2nd half. They have Lance Lynn pitching at home vs Dan Haren, who has struggled on the road with a 5.05 ERA. The Dodgers have generally struggled in this park, so I will be looking for the Cardinals take game one of this series.
