Analysis: The Reds have had a disappointing start to their year, as they come in at 25-29, which puts them 3rd in the NL Central, 7 games behind the Brewers. The Reds are 13-17 on the road this year, but have won 15 of the last 20 in the series played here at Chase Field. The Reds offense has struggled this year, as they come in ranked 28th in scoring (3.48 rpg), 23rd in hitting (.241) and 25th in homers. Doesn't help them that Joey Votto is out and Jay Bruce is hitting around .200. The Pitching has been solid, as they rank 9th in ERA (3.52) and 5th in WHIP (1.22). Getting the Ball for the Reds today will be Alfredo Simon, who has been solid for them this year, going 6-3 with a 2.90 ERA overall, including 5-1 with a 2.13 ERA on the road. Simon has not faced the D-Backs.
For Arizona, they are off to a miserable start, checking in at 23-35 overall and 9-21 at home. They have won 5 of their last 9 games, but still find themselves 14 games out in the NL West. The Diamonbacks have struggled on offense, coming in at 25th in scoring (3.86 rpg) and 17th in hitting (.250). The Pitching has not been there either as they are 30th in the league in ERA (4.48), 21st in WHIP (1.35) and 27th in Quality Starts (20). Toeing the rubber for the Diamondbacks today will be Wade Miley, who is 3-5 with a 4.76 ERA overall, including 1-4 with a 6.50 ERA at home. Wade is 1-1 with a 4.67 ERA in 3 career starts vs the Reds.
Pick: Ok despite the fact that the Simon has been awesome on the road and Miley has been awful at home, the money is still coming in on the Diamondbacks and I will follow that money here. Arizona has won 5 of their last 9 games so they have been playing better of late. Simon got rocked in his last road outing and the D-Backs offense is coming around, having scored 4.6 rpg in their last 5 games, despite being shutout last night. The Reds continue to struggle on offense, as they have averaged just 3 rpg in their last 10 games and Miley has actually had 4 quality starts in his last 5 games, and I see him having another one here vs this weak hitting team. Arizona takes this one.
