The Major League Baseball season continues this evening with a contest between the host Seattle Mariners and the visiting New York Yankees. The game is scheduled for a 9:40 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on ESPN-plus and MLB.tv. Currently the betting odds for the matchup have the Yankees listed as a small favorite to pick up the win in this one.
Major League Baseball odds
NY Yankees -115, Seattle -105
Total: O 7.5 runs (+105), U 7.5 runs (-125)
The Major League Baseball season is winding down and both of these teams are playing for playoff position. The Mariners led the AL West for quite a while but now find themselves looking up at the Houston Astros in the division. They're two full games out of the Wild Card spot as well, but Kansas City, Minnesota and Detroit are battling for that last spot as well.
That makes this a big game, obviously. And the Mariners are really strong in home games this season, sporting a record of 45-30, which is one of the better marks in baseball. Coincidentally, the Yankees are *also* 45-30 in road games this season, which makes for an interesting look at tonight's matchup.
Bryan Woo (8-2, 2.38) has been strong all season for the Mariners. Luis Gil (13-6, 3.18) has also been good for the Yankees. Together, they've thrown more than 240 innings combined and been sound for their clubs on the mound. This one tonight could be a lower-scoring affair.
Both teams come in winners in five of their last seven games overall.
Woo tossed six scoreless innings against the Yankees earlier this year, Gil beat the Mariners earlier this year as well in tossing 6 1/3 scoreless innings. Lot of similarities here between the two clubs, but the Mariners look to be hitting the baseball better as a team right now.
