The New York Mets are hosting the Miami Marlins tonight on Sunday Night Baseball. The game is scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. The Major League Odds for the game have the Mets favored to pick up a win in the first Sunday night game of the season.

The Mets are sending Noah Syndergaard to the mound tonight. He’s already started one game this season, tossing six innings and scattering five hits against Atlanta in the season opener. He earned a no-decision in that game as the Mets scored all six runs after he was pulled from the contest.

But Thor has the flowing locks and the rocket arm. He’s strong at home, sporting an ERA of 2.68 that is a half-run lower than his numbers on the road. Miami hitters own a .262 average against him over 65 at bats, he’s fanned 24 during that time and has only allowed Marcel Ozuna to leave the yard. Syndergaard is a bit banged up with a finger problem, but he’s expecting to be ready to go without problem in this one.

The Marlins are countering with journeyman Edison Volquez, he also had a no-decision in the season’s opener and struck out six. Current Mets own a .268 average against him covering 127 at bats, both Jay Bruce and Asdrubal Cabrera have had some mild success against him with 13 combined hits, including a double and two home runs. Jose Reyes has eight hits in 12 at bats.

Though Thor might be nursing a bum finger, indications are he is ready to go. He’s had very good success at home in his career and while the Marlins have some quality guys, New York gets the nod here.
