The Major League Baseball season continues this evening with a game between the Miami Marlins and the Detroit Tigers. The game is scheduled for a 6:40 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on MLB.tv. Currently the MLB odds for the game have the Tigers listed as a healthy favorite to pick up the victory.
MLB Odds
Detroit -160
Total: O 9 runs (-104), U 9 runs (-116)
I'm going to be making a play on the under in the Marlins/Tigers game here tonight. Neither one of these offenses are great and both rank in the bottom 10 of MLB teams in runs scored for the year. Detroit jumped out to a decent start on the season, but they've won just twice in the last nine games, putting up an average of fewer than four runs per game in that stretch. Also, it's worth noting that in their two victories they scored 11 and eight runs, more than half the runs scored in the nine-game stretch.
Miami is simply struggling as well. The Marlins gave up 20 runs the other day to Oakland, just a wild number. Sure, opponents have put up some decent numbers against them, but Detroit has had its struggles as well.
I'm looking for both pitching staffs here to have decent games. Matt Manning can be a bulldog for the Tigers and I'm expecting him to keep the ball down and have a strong start. Sixto Sanchez was once a superior prospect, but has never really gotten to that point. Miami is terrible away from home and they are just 11-31 on the year, so I'm looking for the Tigers to win a lower-scoring affair here tonight.
