Major League Baseball Los Angeles Dodgers vs Detroit Tigers Start Time, Odds, Free Pick

Tuesday night baseball and we will see the Los Angeles Dodgers take on the Detroit Tigers in game 1 of their 2 game series from Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan. First pitch is scheduled for a 7:08 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised on MLB Network.

Current Odds

Los Angeles        -105
Detroit                -115

Over/ Under: 8.5 Even

Analysis: The Los Angeles Dodgers come in off a 4 game series in Colorado, in which they took 3 of 4 games. The Dodgers have a half game lead of the Giants in the NL West and have really played well on the road this year, going 29-17.  The LA Dodgers are ranked 10th in the league in scoring (4.30 rpg), 6th in hitting (.261), 17th in homers (74) and 1st in stolen bases (84). Decent numbers all around. The pitching has been great for this team, as they come in ranked 5th in ERA (3.23) 8th in WHIP (1.22), 2nd in Ks (770) and 3rd in quality starts (58). Getting the Ball for the Dodgers will be Hyun-Jin Ryu, who is 9-4 with a 3.08 ERA overall, while on the road he is 6-1 with a 1.62 ERA. Ryu has never faced the Tigers.

The Detroit Tigers were hot heading into their 4 game home series with the Rays, but Tampa bay had other plans as they took 3 of 4 from the Central leading Tigers. Detroit still has a 4 game lead over the Royals in the division. The Tigers have been a very good offensive team this year, ranking 4th in the league in scoring (4.64), 2nd in hitting (.275) and 5th in homers (94). Very solid numbers all around for the Tigers. The pitching has been pretty weak, as they come in ranked 24th in the league in ERA (4.03) and 19th in WHIP (1.31). Getting the ball for Detroit tonight will be Justin Verlander, who has struggled this year, coming in with a 7-7 mark and a 4.71 ERA overall, while at home he is 3-5 with a 4.40 ERA. Verlander has never faced the Dodgers, but he is 22-2 with a 2.56 ERA in 29 career interleague starts.

Pick:  I was looking at the Under in this game, but I will go with the Tigers instead. Very hard to ignore the fact that Verlander is 22-2 with a 2.56 ERA in 29 career interleague starts and the Dodgers have never seen him, which does give him the edge. He has been pitching better of late, with a 3.32 ERA in his last 3 starts and the Dodgers offense is still hit or miss. The Dodgers send out Ryu, who has been dominant on the road this year and has never faced the Tigers either, but still Detroit kills lefties at home and Ryu is just 2-2 with a 4.23 ERA in 6 career interleague starts. I know this is the year that many have been fading Verland, but I feel he will rise up and continue his dominance over the National League in this one.
