The Major League Baseball season will continue this afternoon with a game between the host Boston Red Sox and the Houston Astros. The game is scheduled for a 4:10 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on FOX Sports 1. Currently the MLB Odds for the contest have the Red Sox listed as the favorites to pick up the win.
MLB Odds
Boston -120, Houston +110
Total: O10.5 runs (-105), U10.5 runs (-115)
I'm taking the Red Sox to bounce back here today after dropping the series-opener to Houston on Friday. The Astros have been playing really solid baseball and now sit tied for first place in the AL West with Seattle, Boston sits eight games over the .500 mark and still finds itself 6.5 games back in the AL East.
Boston has dropped a couple of games in a row now, but Josh Winckowski (2-1, 3.44) will look to end that streak. Boston has surprisingly been bad at home so far this year (27-29), but Winckowski does have decent numbers inside Fenway. That helps, being a relief pitcher, and he's the opener today as the Sox look to get as many innings out of him as possible to help that bullpen.
The Red Sox are strong offensively, though. The team ranks second in the league in team average (.262) and sits in the top five in runs scored, but they do strike out quite a bit.
Spencer Arrighetti (4-10, 5.33) might be the fade today. He's a youngster that hasn't been able to put it all together yet for Houston, though he can pile up the strikeouts. If he gets into a good groove today, the Red Sox could struggle. But I'll bank on his 1-6 record away from home this year, where he has an ERA of 6.61 in 10 starts. Opponents are hitting .297 against Arrighetti on the road.
