We've reached the halfway point of the Major League Baseball season and will soon head for the home stretch. The Major League Baseball Division Odds have been released by the Las Vegas Hotel (formerly Hilton) in the oddsmakers' expectations for the teams that will reach the post season. The Detroit Tigers have been tabbed as the team most likely to win the World Series this season, according to oddsmakers as well.
National League East — Atlanta Braves 1/5, Washington Nationals 7/2, Philadelphia Phillies 12/1, New York Mets 200/1 and Miami Marlins 2000/1
National League Central — St. Louis Cardinals 1/2, Pittsburgh Pirates 5/2, Cincinnati Reds 17/4, Chicago Cubs 1000/1 and Milwaukee Brewers 5000/1
National League West — LA Dodgers 4/5, Arizona Diamondbacks 7/4, San Francisco Giants 8/1, Colorado Rockies 10/1 and San Diego Padres 50/1
American League East —Boston Red Sox 2/3, Tampa Bay Rays 5/2, Baltimore Orioles 7/1, New York Yankees 8/1 and Toronto Blue Jays 60/1
American League Central — Detroit Tigers 1/5, Cleveland Indians 5/2, Kansas City Royals 50/1, Minnesota Twins 500/1 and Chicago White Sox 1000/1
American League West — Oakland A's 4/5, Texas Rangers 1/1, LA Angels 15/1, Seattle Mariners 300/1 and Houston Astros 9999/1
The Atlanta Braves and Detroit Tigers have the best odds to win their divisions, both sitting at 1/5 odds to win. Neither are very profitable odds, of course, and would warrant a lot more risk than the potential reward. The closest is probably the American League East with four of the five teams sitting at 8/1 odds or better. The Toronto Blue Jays, who were many people's pre-season pick to win the World Series based on their major additions in the off-season, have tail-spinned their way into the basement and are sitting at 60/1 odds to win the division.
Teams with pretty solid odds to win their divisions include the Washington Nationals, Pittsburgh Pirates, Tampa Bay Rays, Cleveland Indians, Texas Angels and even the Los Angeles Angels. The Rays are just 2.5 games outside of first place while the Indians are just 1.5 games outside of the Detroit Tigers in the AL Central. The Rangers sit just 2 games outside of first in the AL West while the Angels, who have a lot of potential, sit 11 games outside of first place.
In the NL the Nats are 6 games out while the Phillies are 6.5 out, but need to figure out whether they will be buyers or sellers. The Dodgers are just 2.5 games outside of first place in the West, which is a jam-packed division. The Rockies are 4.5 back, the Giants are 6.5 back and the Padres are 8.5 games back of the division-leading Arizona Diamondbacks. In the Central the Pittsburgh Pirates are a game back of the Cardinals while the Reds sit at 5 games back of St. Louis.
