The Chicago Cubs welcome in the Detroit Tigers tonight in Major League Baseball action. The game is scheduled for a 8:05 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on the MLB Network as well as live in both markets. Currently the odds for the game have the Cubs favored to pick up the win on the road.
Detroit has been one of the most disappointing teams in baseball this season. The Cubs have been one of the teams impressing the baseball world this year under new skipper Joe Maddon. The Cubs most recently got rocked, though, whiffing 15 times against Chris Sale in a 3-1 defeat that ended a nine-game winning streak by Chicago.
The Cubs are a third-place team this season, but it happens to be the division where two of the best teams in baseball reside. Both St. Louis and Pittsburgh have been extremely good this season and despite being 18 games over the .500 mark, the Cubs have basically no shot at winning the division.
They are still a playoff team, though. The Cubs and Pirates are holding down the Wild Card spots and Chicago has been very good at Wrigley Field this season, tonight they host a Tigers team that hasn't really done anything well all season.
Detroit sends Anibal Sanchez to the mound. He's 10-10 with a 4.95 ERA in 24 starts and just 3-6 with a 5.09 ERA on the road in nine starts. Sanchez, like most of the Tigers, is not having a good season but they are looking to play well down the stretch.
Current Cubs are hitting .198 against Sanchez in 86 at bats, Miguel Montero and David Ross have both homered.
The Cubs will start Jason Hammel, he's 6-5 with a 3.10 ERA in 22 starts. Hammel is just 1-2 in 11 starts at Wrigley this season, opponents are hitting .217 against him there.
Current Tigers are hitting .227 against him in 44 at bats. A trio of Tigers have homered off him as Alex Avila, Rajai Davis and Victor Martinez have all taken Hammel deep. Miguel Cabrera has collected four hits in 11 at bats.
The Cubs are playing well, Detroit is not. Hammel will keep the Tigers off balanced tonight.

Vegas betting expert Steve Fezzik doesn’t expect the bad situation in Oakland to get much better this season. This AFC West team may have some improvements in terms of personnel, but Jack Del Rio is the latest in a carousel of ever-changing mediocre coaches, and Fezzik doesn’t expect he is the guy to turn this team around. He also thinks people are overstating Derek Carr’s abilities at quarterback, as he may do well in the fourth quarter, but his numbers are padded with garbage time performance.
