The Boston Red Sox are on the road tonight in Major League Baseball action when they take on the Oakland Athletics. The game is scheduled for a 10:05 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on MLB.tv. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Athletics listed as a pretty small favorite to pick up the win in this one.
Boston and Oakland playing on the West Coast tonight with a couple of solid pitchers on the bump. The Red Sox will send out Rick Porcello, who is now 3-2 on the season with a 4.38 ERA in just six starts for Boston. Porcello will need to keep the ball down against Oakland, not letting the Athletic hitters see pitches up in the zone that could end up sprayed all over the big and spacious O.co Coliseum.
The Athletics will be pitching Scott Kazmir, the veteran lefty who will look to get his team back on the right track. Oakland has been dreadful to date this season, winners of just 12 of their 33 games played. Kazmir is 2-1 on the year with an ERA of 2.75 — current Boston hitters own an average of .291 against him, Dustin Pedroia and David Ortiz have had the most success in their careers.
This should be a pretty solid pitching battle, despite some struggles to start the year for Porcello. The Red Sox have had some pitching struggles to date, but they haven't exactly had a ton of explosions offensively either. Playing against Kazmir won't make any of it easier, but a solid outing from Porcello would certainly go a long way into helping them get back on track.
Oakland, though, finds a way to pick up a win at home. The Athletics have really been poor there so far this season, tonight they get another one in the win column behind a solid performance from Kazmir on the mound.
