The Oakland Athletics will go for the sweep this afternoon as they battle the Los Angeles Angels at the O.co Coliseum in Oakland. Start time in today’s series finale, which features hurlers C.J. Wilson and Tommy Milone, is set for 3:35pm ET. The Angels have produced plenty of offense in this series thus far, scoring eight and six runs in games one and two, but it was not enough. Oakland cranked out 10 runs in each of those outings to extend its current winning streak to three games.
Los Angeles, which has dropped four in a row and six of its last seven games, will attempt to avoid another Athletics outburst by sending veteran left C.J. Wilson to the hill. Wilson, a 32 year old southpaw, owns a 2-0 record in five starts; however, his ERA and WHIP are both uninspiring at 4.30 and 1.53 respectively.
Wilson has also had an issue working late into games. The former Ranger has not pitched more than six innings in a game this season, which means the Angels suspect bullpen (ranks 21st in the majors with a 4.26 ERA) could become a factor this afternoon.
Oakland will counter Wilson with its own left-hander in 26 year old Tommy Milone. Milone is 3-2 in five starts with a 3.38 ERA and 1.22 WHIP, but his numbers are even better at the O.co Coliseum. In three home appearances this season Milone has allowed just four earned runs and struck out 15 in 20.2 innings of work.
