The 147th running of the Kentucky Derby will take place this afternoon live from Churchill Downs. The Grade 1 race is held annually on the first Saturday in May and is one of the biggest sporting events of the year. Essential Quality is currently the favorite to win the race. This year's Derby is scheduled for a 6:57 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on NBC.
