Idaho Potato Bowl Toledo Rockets vs Utah State Aggies: Start Time, Spread, Free Pick

The 2012 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl will take place in Boise, Idaho and we will see the Toledo Rockets take on the Utah State Aggies. The game is scheduled for a 4:30 PM (Eastern) start time and it will be televised live on ESPN. Currently the odds for the game have Utah State favored by 10.5 points, while the total sits at 58.5. Check out Sportsbook Spy to find out what side the Public is taking on all today's games.

Free Analysis: The Rockets are playing in their third consecutive and 13th overall bowl game after posting a 9-3 record in the regular season. In his first year as a head coach, Campbell had his team in position to book a trip to the Mid-American Conference Championship Game before it lost to the BCS bound Northern Illinois Huskies. Toledo began the season with just one loss in its first nine games, and cracked the Top-25 soon after upsetting Cincinnati before falling to Ball State and then NIU. Campbell guided the team to a win over Air Force in the 2011 Military Bowl in his head coaching debut last season. Rockets starting QB Terrance Owens (foot) and RB David Fluellen (ankle) both missed their last games, but are both expected to start here.  Owens placed third in the MAC with 278 total YPG, finishing his season with 2,677 passing yards (8.0 YPC), 14 TD and 8 INT. He was outstanding in last year's Eagle Bank Bowl against Air Force, completing 19-of-24 passes for 210 yards, 3 TD and 0 INT in a 42-41 victory. All three of those touchdowns went to WR Bernard Reedy who has had an excellent junior season with 82 catches for 1,051 yards and 6 TD. He is also extremely dangerous in the return game with three touchdowns (2 kick return, 1 punt return) over his past seven games. On defense the Rockets gave up a lot of yards (464.1 ypg) to rank 10th in the MAC in total defense, but they placed fifth scoring defense (27.3 ppg) due to their knack for forcing turnovers. The Rockets are led by the nation's leading tackler, Dan Molls, who has recorded 166 total stops. Molls logged 18 tackles and notched his third sack of the season last time out.

As for Gary Andersen's Aggies, they enter this clash on a six-game winning streak after sweeping through the Western Athletic Conference. Utah State finished the regular season with a 10-2 overall record, its only two losses coming at Wisconsin (16-14) and at BYU (6-3). The Aggies scored 38-plus points in each of its last six games and have not trailed at any point during their last five outings. Utah State played in this same bowl game last year, dropping a 24-23 decision to another MAC program, Ohio University. Utah State QB Chuckie Keeton has produced a solid sophomore campaign, throwing for 3,144 yards (262 YPG), 27 TD and just 9 INT. Since a 6-3 loss at BYU, Keeton has thrown at least two touchdowns in all six of his games, totaling 16 TD in this stretch. He's also run for seven scores in these seven games. The main ball carrier for the Aggies is Kerwynn Williams, who leads the WAC with 106 rushing YPG. Williams has six 100-yard efforts in his past nine games, including three in a row. The Aggies offense was not asked to do too much due to the tenacity displayed by the team's defense. Utah State ranks 15th in the FBS in total defense with only 322.7 ypg, and eighth in scoring defense with just 15.4 ppg. The Aggies have held half of their opponents to 13 points or less, thanks in big part to an outstanding pass rush with 3.3 sacks per game (8th in FBS).

Free Pick: Im gonna go with Toledo in this one. The Utah State defense has been pretty awesome this year, but they only played 2 good offenses and allowed 41 points to La Tech and 27 points to San Jose State, which were the only 2 times they allowed over 20 points on the year. Today they7 will faced a Toledo offense that has put up some big numbers this year, averaging 456.1 ypg and 32.9 ppg. Toledo didn’t have start QB Owens or top RB Fluellen in their last game, but both are expected back in this one and they are the two parts that really make this offense go. I know that the Toledo defense has been pretty weak this year, but because of their offense they were still able to go 9-3 on the year with all 3 losses being by just 7 points each. I look for that offense to keep them close once again. 2 POWER ANGLES FOR THIS PLAY--- MAC teams that were .666 or better on the year are 11-1 SU and 10-1 ATS if they are off a win… Bowl favorites of > 3 points off DD win are 4-16 ATS if they are returning to same bowl game they lost at the year before.
