I'll Have Another - Preakness Contenders 2012

http://a.espncdn.com/media/motion/2012/0505/dm_120505_bioblast_illhaveanother.jpg

This year's Kentucky Derby winner I'll Have Another is one of two horses in the 2012 Preakness Stakes that is considered a major favorite. Currently the odds for I'll Have Another are 2-1, which is considered the second favorite behind Bodemeister. Because the horse won the Kentucky Derby earlier in the month, I'll Have Another is considered to be a Preakness Contender.

I'll Have Another has six career starts to his record and has won four of those races and placing second in one. The horse is still perfect this season, taking first place in all three races he has started. Winning the Derby obviously helped, but the horse has a career earnings of $2,093,600. I'll Have Another will start the 2012 Preakness from the ninth post.

Since 1997, seven horses that won the Kentucky Derby came back to win the 2012 Preakness Stakes as well. However since 2005, only Big Brown has won both of the first two legs of the prestigious Triple Crown.

Depending on how the race is holding up, I'll Have Another has shown the ability to race up close with other horses and keep pace or hang back off the early leaders and close late to win the race. Some horse guys argue that I'll Have Another has always had more than four weeks to prepare for the next race and he obviously won't have that in the Preakness.

I'll Have Another is getting no love at the window, opening at 5-2 and now being shown at 2-1 betting odds. The Derby winner is always a household name at this point in the Triple Crown search, but many consider this to be a second place horse at best.

Preakness Facts: Opening day at Pimlico Race Course in 1870 featured the Dinner Party Stakes that was won by a horse named Preakness. In the racetrack's spring meet of 1873, the 3-year-old stakes race was named after him and the rest is history. The first official Preakness was won by Survivor with a 10 length cushion between him and second place. This record win was not topped until 2004 when Smarty Jones took home the title by an amazing 11 lengths.
