Just when the Bulldog faithful were ready to stick a fork in Mark Richt, the beleaguered head coach guided his team to an unexpected 10-4 season and SEC East title. Nevertheless, Richt could return to the hot seat rather quickly, as Georgia’s 2011 performance has stirred hopes that the school contend for an SEC championship once again and, possibly, a spot in the BCS National Championship Game. Should the Bulldogs slide backward, as the latest Georgia 2012 College Football Predictions suggest, Richt may hit the unemployment line next year. The Bulldogs are a favorite to retain their East title at +155 odds ($100 to win $155); however, the Under 10 wins for the school is presently drawing -185 odds ($185 to win $100). Georgia’s 2013 BCS Odds are presently set at +1600.

Georgia’s SEC East title hopes looked dim after it fell 42-45 at home to South Carolina in its second game last season, but the Bulldogs rallied to win their next 10 games. Their run included seven conference victories as they beat Mississippi, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Florida, Auburn, and Kentucky by an average of 13.1 points per game.

With 16 starters, including a Heisman candidate in junior quarterback Aaron Murray, and 54 lettermen back, Georgia fans are expecting even more out of this year’s team. What also has both Bulldog fans and college football pundits alike anticipating an incredible season from Murray and company is the team’s ‘soft’ schedule.

While it seems like an oxymoron to label any SEC schedule soft, Georgia avoids the West’s formidable trio of Alabama, LSU, and Arkansas and its non-conference slate features only one opponent worth mentioning, in-state rival Georgia Tech. The Bulldogs do face road games at Missouri, South Carolina, and Auburn and they have their usual neutral site clash with Florida, but the odds makers have Richt’s troops listed as a favorite in each of those contests at -4.5, -2, -5.5, and -3.5 respectively.
